Ambulance subsidy urged to sustain Grundy County service
Roland Nelson, Morris Ambulance operator, asked the Grundy County Board for county and city subsidies to keep a quality service. After 55 days, charges totaled 4272 dollars with 2113 dollars unpaid, 913 of which were overdue. Flat 35 dollar town rate and 1 dollar per mile out of town were cited. Nelson warned without aid he would need a sideline job. subsidy would fund a 14000 dollar new ambulance. He noted three ambulances, 250 dollars monthly insurance per vehicle, and that in California and Texas ambulances demand cash upfront.

Grundy County Sheriff William Button announced his bid for another term on the Democratic ballot in the March 19 primary. The 31 year old former Morris police patrolman and deputy sheriff was appointed Feb. 13 to finish the late Sheriff Marvin L Olson’s term. He notes college law enforcement courses FBI schools and two first aid courses. Button lists leadership roles in state and national sheriff associations and responsibility for a county crime program and new sheriff’s office record keeping and communications system. Grundy County board hears State’s Atty Richard Wilder urge an early plan to merge Erienna Greenfield and Main townships to reach a minimum equalized valuation of six million dollars per township by December 31 1972 a bill seeks boundary changes to create larger townships with voter referendums required for new towns.
