In Sycamore Illinois a 7 year old girl named Maria Ridulph disappeared a week ago. Her mother remains hopeful yet numb from waiting and not knowing as hundreds search ravines and swamps for clues. Cathy Sigman says a man called Johnny offered rides then Maria vanished leaving her doll behind.
At the 39th annual Farm Bureau convention in Chicago, American Farm Bureau Federation leader Charles B. Shuman urged a calm, measured approach to expanding missile programs and space development. He warned against giant federal budget boosts and argued free market incentives drive US leadership, while cautioning about government power over farms and individual freedoms.
President Eisenhower will undergo an afternoon medical exam to determine if he can attend the NATO summit in Paris next week. Doctors who treated him after a mild stroke 15 days ago will assess his fitness, with Nixon set to attend if he cannot go. An automobile reported stolen from F. Behling in Chicago was recovered from a strip mine pit about a mile northwest of Carbon Hill Friday by Chief Deputy James Bell. Robert Robertson Jr. of Coal City reported finding the car, partially submerged. two tow trucks removed it and it was taken to Morris. Ownership was traced to Behling, who had already reported the theft.
Children who placed stones on the track near Tiapei caused a deadly derailment that killed 19 people and injured many others. The Sunday crash near Taipéi involved a locomotive and 11 passenger cars, with 20 in critical condition and over 100 lightly hurt. It was the worst in nine years.
Officials at Dartmoore Prison report inmates have formed a bird-watching society focusing on the jackdaw. The jackdaw is described as the bird world’s No 1 thief.

Skin planing with a brush and carbon dioxide freezing is described as highly successful in eradicating skin cancer and preventing recurrence.
Morris city council approved immediate start on a three part sewer project costing about 120000 to serve recently annexed areas. First section a 24 inch line from Jefferson street to near the Quaker Oats plant at 32000, then a 21 inch line north across Highway 6 at 54000, and a third section estimated at 35000 along Lisbon and Waverly streets.
Kruegel of Kruegel Wilkins Healy and Moore told the Board of Supervisors about a remodeling program for the Grundy county court house. Proposals include removing a failing coping and a large skylight and adding a new roof. Plans will be prepared for February approval and bids.
Perry Barksdale of Morris and Charles Vick of Bourbonnais were injured in related but separate accidents while working at the Dresden Nuclear Plant. Vick fell about 80 feet from a steel structure, suffering a head laceration, while Barksdale sustained a leg fracture as an elevator cable slipped and dropped about 15 feet. Both were treated at Morris Hospital.

It shows cost per student down from 498 to 480 dollars, total education fund expenses at 232 789 34, building fund 81 664 14 with 74 798 25 interest and debt retirement.
