Driver Pinned In Wreckage After Farm Fence Crash
Ottawa motorist James D. Brown 29 of 600 East Superior Street was listed in fair condition at Morris Hospital after a 3 a.m. crash on Pine Bluff Road east of Morris. His westbound 1966 Dodge struck a curve, veered off, tore through 100 feet of fence and rolled in a yard owned by Claude Rogers Goose Lake Township. Brown was trapped until about 6 a.m. and later taken to hospital by Davis ambulance.

The Morris Chamber of Commerce says stores will open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for Christmas shopping beginning Friday. Some Morris businesses kept late hours on Dec. 1 and now all stores will extend hours to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 with normal hours resuming Dec. 26.

Brooklyn Heart Transplant Attempts End in Patient Death
Dr. Adrian Kantrowitz and a 22 member team announced the second failed transplant in four days at Maimonides Hospital. A heart from a two day old donor was implanted in a 244 week old patient but the heart stopped after six hours. The team deemed the procedure a failure and planned further attempts. The operation is not connected to a separate successful transplant in South Africa four days earlier.

Two Teens Charged In Coal City Vending Machine Break-In
