AMA rejects harder line against chiropractors
CHICAGO AP Moves to take a harder line against chiropractors were turned down by the American Medical Association House of Delegates at its semiannual meeting. By an overwhelming voice vote, physicians were permitted to accept referrals from chiropractors, a ruling that keeps chiropractors unrecognized as medical peers while allowing individual referrals. The vote follows suits against the AMA in Philadelphia and resistance from radiologists surgeons and orthopedic groups to an agreement ending litigation by allowing any referral choices. Delegates from several specialties pushed for the stricter stance, arguing the code of ethics forbids association with unscientific medicine.
