Budget slash could affect housing aid
Washington AP reports Carter administration budget experts recommend 1980 cuts that could trim federally subsidized housing from about 330,000 units to roughly 225,000 in the next fiscal year. HUD seeks to avert cuts and push toward about 300,000 units amid GOP-era targets and protests from urban and housing groups. The Budget Office argues lower per unit costs and cheaper subsidies could keep or even raise the level despite reduced funding.
