County Officials Favor Plan for Weighted Vote
CHICAGO AP A plan to switch to a weighted vote system to fix one man one vote at county level won favor at a meeting of county officials. The Illinois Association of Supervisors and County Commissioners approved backing the weighted plan with an option to present an alternative if the plan fails with the Illinois County Problems Commission. The alternative, proposed by Knox County, would reapportion counties so each board member represents about the same population and would be handled by county boards. Lake County indicated readiness to shift to weighted voting at a Dec 10 meeting. The next step is a possible court test and review by Illinois Association members before sending recommendations to the County Problems Commission and Legislature. The article notes U S Supreme Court rulings on equal population districts. It also mentions Yankees will have two new coaches in 1969 Elston Howard and Dick Howser replacing Frank Crosetti and Whitey Ford.
