Verona Residents Hurt In Early Morning Truck Crash
Two Verona residents were listed in fair condition at Morris Hospital after a pickup truck failed to negotiate a Gorham Road Greer Road intersection curve at 2 35 a m. The driver William C Hendrickson 26 and passenger Lucille Mercer 18 were thrown into a roadside ditch. Mercer walked to a farm for help suffering minor cuts a sore back and a possible broken wrist. Hendrickson had lacerations to the scalp ear and chin. They were transported by Davis Ambulance. The truck owned by John Walsh was towed from the scene. Separately Ruth H Huseby 79 was cited for failure to reduce speed after rear ending a car driven by Mary Sue Bowman 28 at a roadwork area on Illinois 47. Bowman's Toyota sustained rear and left side damage. Huseby faces court September 10. Brent Kenny 18 months was treated and released after a windshield crack from a car crash on Chapin and Spruce. No tickets were issued.

Construction crews uncovered two to three skeletons in an old Morrison area cemetery east of Illinois 47 while widening US 6. The bones were bagged and reburied in a back section after officials, including Ken Sandeno and Thomas Dunn, noted the cemetery’s abandonment. Authorities paused grading and investigated burial history with the Joliet diocese and DOT.

Man drowns near Morris on Illinois River incident
A 29-year-old Lockport man, Richard Jones, drowned in 12 to 14 feet of water about a half mile east of the Illinois Bridge after apparently losing balance on a boat edge. Fire crews from Morris and nearby towns searched for about 90 minutes before Jones’s body was recovered. survivors include his wife Betty and four children, with Jones employed by Coco Steel Corp. in Lemont.

APSA to lay off 95 workers at Joliet plant
