City and state curfew rules differ for Morris youths. State law bans under 18 on streets after curfew hours 11 p m to midnight. city ordinance targets under 17 with 10 p m weekdays and 11 p m weekends. Penalties vary with fines and custody liable.
An American Lotus searcher seeks a known habitat of the water lily with large pale yellow blooms and bowl leaves, recalling spots near Ottawa and Lake Wappapello as it vanished from local waters. The piece also reports Grundy County joining a seven region system for state admin duties, planning a future with potential local centers and clearer boundary lines.
Seventy percent of Morris Community High School’s 134 graduates will pursue additional education this fall. Among them 66.8 percent enter vocational, junior college, or four year programs, with 58 students accepted to four year colleges or universities. Names of colleges include Wisconsin State University Stevens Point, University of Wisconsin Kenosha, Washburn College, and Illinois institutions among others.
A Joliet state trooper detained three men on I 80 near Seneca Road in Nettle Creek Township. Officers found about five pounds of marijuana in a pillow case in a 1962 Ford van. The trio, Robert J. Henery 21 Falcraft Penn Jonathan L. Handley 22 Wantagh NY and Gordon W. Weiner 23 Wantagh NY, were jailed in Grundy County awaiting court. A second pair were held on narcotics charges with $25 000 bonds after a Coal City arrest last Thursday.
The Grundy County Special Education Cooperative Executive committee approved hiring two special education teachers aides Catherine Baring and June Bolen, plus Mrs. Mary Barker to teach intermediate LS classes. Mrs. Sherri Rath to take a leave December 1. Dr. Virginia Harris to attend a Washington DC convention with $100 transport and two days off. Planning for reorganization of special education administration continues. The next meeting is September 16 at Franklin School.
Morris Community High School filled its faculty Thursday as the board approved contracts for two new teachers. Charmian Poe, with 14 years high school and 3 years elementary experience, will teach English and speech and three plays at 10363 dollars. Larry Bearden of Kalamazoo, with three years teaching experience and a master's degree, will teach English at the sophomore level for 8968 dollars. After the meeting the board held an executive session on personnel with President Ray Christensen saying no action would be taken.
Partly sunny and warm today with a high near 86 and a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Tonight partly cloudy with a forecast chance of storms and a low in the 60s. Saturday expects mostly sunny skies with warm temps and possible rain in the afternoon, high in the upper 80s. Thursday at Dresden Island Locks and Dam reached 87 degrees with a 63 low. Early morning reading was 71 degrees and precipitation totaled 0.06 inches.

Seneca Fire Chief reports three fires Thursday night into today near the Dupont plant. An old LaSalle County schoolhouse on an I 80 frontage road burned after 11 p m. A corn crib cob pile on Dupont property caught fire about midnight. A trash blaze at the plant ignited around 1 a m and burned until 5 a m before Dupont crews relieved Seneca firefighters. The cause remains undetermined and demolition work linked to the fires is noted.
A California youth James R. Sexton 21 Lakeland faces one year court supervision after guilty finding on drug abuse act charges in Will County. Co-defendants Patrick Kennedy which failed to appear for a hearing issued warrant and Thomas Collier 19 Coal City indicted for unlawful sale of marijuana with case scheduled August 30.
An inquest led by Coroner Clark Davis reviewed Wade S. Tinsman’s Aug 4 death from injuries in a Morris Hospital collision with Earl K. Benson Jr. on Aug 1 at Pine and Washington Streets. The jury urged Morris to identify streets with proper markings. A closing line urged public charity for pocketbook troubles.
Bids are due Sept 3 for widening and resurfacing 4.4 miles of U S 6 from northeast of Morris to the Grundy Will county line. The bid setting includes 146 projects and is the sixth of eight regular 1971 program solicitations.
Richard N. Young of Oswego will stay on as Kendall County building and zoning officer after talks with the county board of supervisors. He said he will not quit or phase out of his county employment in September. At a July board meeting, he had urged that a replacement be found by September 1.
