Best Balance Of Payments In Two Years

The U S balance of payments position in the second quarter was the best in two years though aided by special factors. The dollar drain slowed to about 150 million dollars for April to June while the two quarter deficit totaled 810 million. Analysts caution that the basic situation remains similar to the first quarter and a substantial improvement over 1967 is anticipated. Special transactions include 800 million dollars in investments by foreign official bodies and Canada purchasing 500 million dollars of U S government securities, plus a securities sale to Germany to offset U S military expenditures.
