ICC approves Seneca power plant in Brookfield Township
The Illinois Commerce Commission unanimously approves Commonwealth Edison plan for a 2000 MW nuclear station near Seneca in Brookfield Township LaSalle County with a 6800 acre site and a 4500 acre cooling lake. First unit 1100 MW by 1975, expansion to 5200 MW eyed in the 1980s. Critics favored cooling towers and larger lake but the ICC rejects those options citing ecological concerns and seven sites evaluated. The plant draws water from the Illinois River and sits three miles south of the river.

Gardner women injured in garden city mishap
Two Gardner women sustained minor injuries in a Thursday collision at Mazon and Monroe streets. Mrs. Charles Byers had a knee injury and Mrs. Genevieve Hallmack a shoulder injury. Both were treated and released at Morris Hospital.
