Morris Community High School board approves a tentative general budget of 1 260 824 94 for public display with expenditures of 1 230 277 36 noting a revenue rise and expense cut tied to Grundy Area Vocational Center costs.
The Grundy County Board of Review has listened to 52 complaints since late May, compared with 90 in 1971. Members include Lawrence Manning Verona Peter Cacello South Wilmington and John Dullard Minooka, with Milton Carlson as assessment supervisor. The board meets Tue Wed Thu 9 am to 4 pm. No decisions have been rendered on a long list of 52 complainants across multiple townships and towns including Wauponsee Saratoga Braceville Morris and Goose Lake, among others.
South Vietnamese troops report their first gains in Quang Tri in two weeks clearing the southern sector and destroying 14 enemy tanks southwest of the city. They suffer heavy losses in a major highland attack amid air and artillery bombardment. Northern Quang Tri holds with a 400 man North Vietnamese battalion still present.
The Grundy County Housing Authority will meet Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. The meeting was moved from Aug 7. Executive Director Tracy Adcock said members will meet with developers before the session and the 1:30 p.m. meeting is open to the public.
Windsor area forecasts call for tonight and Friday warmer conditions with overnight lows in the upper 50s. Friday will be partly cloudy and warmer with a chance of thunderstorms and a high in the mid 80s. Earlier, Dresden Island Locks reported a high of 72 and low of 49, and Morris downtown logged 52 at 7 am and 70 at 11 am with no precipitation.
A 12 member Yorkville Community Unit District committee reviewed amended dress code proposals. The plan sets minimum garment lengths for girls, bans halter tops, and restricts hair and facial hair styles for both genders. It allows only certain sweatshirts and adds restrictions on footwear, with final board approval pending.
Four youth supervisors at the Joliet reception and diagnostic center were injured as 18 youths rioted in a dormitory. Damage to the dormitory totaled 1,000 to 2,000 dollars. as many as 50 youths roamed the grounds before all were accounted for. Supervisor Robert Everett, 56, suffered facial injuries but was in good condition after treatment.
After a week of testimony the espionage court martial of M. Sgt Walter Perkins went to military judge Col Joe Peck for a verdict. The defense argued alcoholism had turned Perkins into a hopeless cripple and urged acquittal to send a message to national alcoholics.
Ford and the Secret Service say the five ton black armor plated Lincoln Continental limousine will not be delivered to President Nixon until bugs are worked out. The car, leased for about 5000 a year, features retractable running boards and a complex communications system.
