A sequence of eight tornadoes hit northern Minnesota killing fourteen people and injuring hundreds. The Outing resort area and nearby Island Lake, Hibbing, Floodwood and Duluth regions were hard hit, with guards sealing off zones as hospitals treated dozens.

A two car collision on South Broadway Street in Coal City injured Mrs. George Maly 52 of 320 Oak Street. She was treated at Morris Hospital for back pains and placed in fair condition under observation. The accident occurred as she backed from a parking space striking a car driven by Robert Ferrari 24 of 70 DeWitt Place. Police cited Mrs. Maly for improper backing.

Motorist Held in Hospital After Accident Near Illinois 47
Michael J. Sheridan 23 of Ottawa was in fair condition and held for injuries from a one car crash five miles west of Illinois 47 on Interstate RA in Grundy County. Sheridan in a 1967 Pontiac tried to pass then lost control veered off road struck a culvert and overturned traveling about 150 feet. He was taken to Morris Hospital by Davis Ambulance. The Pontiac was damaged heavily and towed to Olson's Sinclair station. No citations issued.
