Hayloft Fire Destroys Dairy Barn Near Newark
Firemen from Newark Yorkville and Serena battled a large hayloft blaze at Harv ey Norem farm three and a half miles north of Newark on Illinois 71. The fire destroyed about 80 tons of hay and straw but the lower floor and milking house were saved along with 50 percent of the hay and 60 tons of loft straw. The barn built in 1941 housed 50 cows and produced a ton of milk daily. No injuries were reported and the cause was not determined though wiring is suspected.
