Porch Collapse Injures Worker at Farm Residence
Jerome Warner a 44 year old C C Roofing worker was injured when a porch collapsed while he worked on it at a farm residence owned by Mrs Florence Wainwright on Pine Bluff Road east of Morris. He fell about seven feet and was taken to Morris Hospital with a back injury. Hospital spokesmen report his condition as fair.

GOP Senators Propose Out In Sales Tax
SPRINGFIELD Ill AP Republican Senate leaders introduced Gov Richard B Ogilvies state income tax plan today but also proposed a sales tax reduction and elimination of personal property taxes. Sen W Russell Arrington said Ogilvie had been informed of the change in his revenue program and registered no surprise and no opposition. Ogilvie had asked only for a 4 percent income tax on individuals and corporations, making no proposal on sales or personal taxes. Under Arringtons bills the state sales tax would be cut to 3 4 cents effective Jan 1 and a constitutional amendment would be submitted to voters in 1970 for elimination of personal taxes. Arringtons offer of sweeteners represented an attempt to sell the income tax which has met strong opposition in the legislature. Arrington said the new package was presented to a Republican Senate caucus and drew varying attitudes. Our task is to pass the income tax Arrington told a news conference. Some say it cannot be done. I disagree. An income tax is the only equitable alternative to raising the amount of new money Illinois needs. If the sales tax is lowered it would cut SEO million in revenue from Ogilvies budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. Arrington said the prospective reduction in personal property taxes was 360 million a year a loss which the state would have to make up to local governments in the form of grants.
