Cable Cut Halts Morris City Phone Service
A work crew cut a major underground Illinois Bell cable at 10:20 a.m. interrupting service for about 1,500 customers in Morris, including Morris Hospital. By 12:30 p.m. hospital calls were restored and 200 to 300 lines remained out by 1:45 p.m. Full restoration expected by 6 p.m. A contractor, chosen April 12 with a $1,740 bid, cleaned the creek to prevent flood danger.

Second I M Canal Meeting Plans May Celebration
A second planning meeting for the Illinois Michigan Canal celebration set for May 15 16 will be at 4 p m Thursday in Grundy County Chamber offices. The event list includes hikes a kids fishing derby and a public barbecue with more ideas welcome. Operation Greenstrip will span 95 miles with Morris and Channahon at the center and the Chamber seeks input from residents to ensure a proud local celebration.
