The Morris Daily Herald reviews tax funded fox bounty payments in Grundy County and state trends. Reports show Grundy pays only fox bounties while other counties pay for wolves coyotes and groundhogs. statewide bounty totals and shifts from fox to coyote are noted.
Two Hinsdale brothers, Gary Allen Thompson 17 and Derrel Lee Thompson 19, pleaded guilty to a February 22 Morris Moose Lodge burglary. Judge Dixon gave the younger a term at Vandalia and school attendance under supervision. the elder received 10 months at the state farm with probation to follow. The case touched a grand jury in DuPage and a separate hold on the younger brother, while the attorney noted a broken home.
The Illinois Sanitary Water Board issued a permit to the City of Morris to install and operate major additions to its sewage treatment works with treated effluent discharge to Nettle Creek and the Illinois River. Permits were also issued to Oglesby for temporary effluent chlorination facilities and to Plainfield for a complete-mix activated sludge plant and appurtenances.
Betty and Robert Waters filed a damage suit in circuit court seeking 250000 against Rock Island Line and Clara Holland. Betty Waters claims 100000 from each defendant for injuries from the Oct 18 1966 collision at the Bungalow School Crossing. Robert Waters seeks 25000 from each defendant for medical expenses and related factors.
The Illinois Revenue Department said it will begin in August to collect any additional taxes lawmakers authorize this year. Governor Ogilvie seeks a 4 percent income tax and other levies. A panel advised hiring a Chicago management firm to advise the department.
Dr Charles J Eagon of Colorado State University argues that running at least two miles daily five or six days a week for two years can raise a person over 40 to a fitness level comparable to lifelong trained peers of the same age.
In a 5 0 vote the Morris Zoning Board of Appeals recommended a variance to extend a non conforming use in an R I district at 734 E Main St from two to five apartments. The plan adds six off street parking spaces and requires exterior work within six months as owner Ralph Shay negotiates with neighbors after a hearing April 10.
A 7 30 p m program for parents on youth drug abuse will be held Monday at Morris Center School gym. Speaker Joseph F Fiedoral a retired Chicago policeman and narcotics expert will discuss prevention and answer questions. Organized by Morris elementary schools and sponsored by local high schools and churches.
The forecast shows upper 30s tonight and a sunny warmer weekend with highs in the 50s. Collins Weather Station logged Thursday high 72 and low 39, with 9 am 43 and 11 am 44 downtown Morris. Precipitation totals from 0.4 to 0.7 inches expected Tuesday and Wednesday.

Gary Brashear of the Illinois Department of Public Health will meet Morris City officials at 3 30 p m today to discuss alleged failures to obey garbage laws. Alderman Hundt cites water in Beach Road dump and long-standing strip mining history as core problems.
The two story house at 425 E North St was razed in about an hour contrary to Herald predictions. Mrs John Olson watched and shared that her mother Mary Evans born 1871 lived nearby and graves were tended at Evergreen Cemetery as they walked past the North Street house en route to the cemetery. The Immaculate Conception parish plans a playground parking lot on the former site.
A federal grand jury indicted three Black Panther party members Nathaniel Junior Merrill Harvey and Michael White on conspiring to possess machine guns and hand grenades. They were jailed in Cook County with bonds set at 65000 for Junior and Harvey and 75000 for White.
President Nixon ordered continued reconnaissance flights near North Korea noting they will be protected and are not a threat. He described the EC121 shootdown as unprovoked and deliberate and said the missions aid South Korea where 56,000 U.S. troops are stationed. The protest to North Korea followed the incident and the plan to maintain calm in public briefings.
