Voters in Morris pass a $275000 general obligation bond by a 5 to 1 margin to aid financing for a secondary sewage treatment plant estimated at $860000. In each of four wards the bond gained strong support with 94/12 in Ward 1, 145/31 in Ward 2, 20/33 in Ward 3, and 261/67 in Ward 4 with a few spoiled ballots.
The Pentagon said evidence supports North Korea’s claim it shot down a large U.S. Navy EC121 reconnaissance aircraft over the Sea of Japan with no survivors. A Soviet vessel recovered airplane parts, while the crew of 31 was lost about 120 miles off North Korea. The statement cited debris sightings and North Korean assertions as corroboration.
Five trucks crashed in heavy fog on I 55 about a mile south of Arsenal Road. Drivers Roy Dean and J Y Bryant were hospitalized in Joliet. Other involved were Harold Sarver William Gehrke and J K McGee. State police investigate cause as traffic jam trapped motorists until 7:30 a.m.

Collins Weather Station reports a high of 64 and a low of 41 on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to average 7 to 10 degrees above normal before turning cooler Friday and Saturday, then warming Sunday and Monday. Total precipitation near one inch in rain and showers Thursday and Friday, then again Monday.
The Mazon village president Loyal Reader with 160 votes Tuesday won reelection defeating James Braghini who had 15 tallies and Donald R. Platt 43 on the Peoples Party ticket. Two incumbents won board seats, clerk McCormick reelected with 201 votes and other village races across Carbon Hill East Brooklyn Kinsman Lisbon South Wilmington Verona Diamond Yorkville details follow.
About 75 persons attended a Tuesday evening session at the First National Bank meeting room. School officials mayors and civil defense personnel were present as Ivan Brunk of the US Weather Bureau in Chicago led a discussion on proper tornado procedures after showing the film Tornado.
The Morris Community High School board approved raises for Supt. Claude Rose to 18,500 annually and Assistant Supt. Ted Morgan to 16,000, plus a 900 to 1,000 rise for the two. Teachers also gain 6,900 starting pay. board offered no prior public notice of the action.
John C. Hendrickson, 412 FE, Jackson Sr., won 763 Republican votes in Morris's general election, securing the mayoralty and leading to take office May 1. Incumbents Caisley and White start new terms as clerk and treasurer. three new Republican aldermen also elected amid a 855 total city vote.
