A crowd of about 2 000 Indonesians attacked the Red Chinese embassy in Jakarta, smashing the gate and ransacking the building. Chinese staff faced missiles as Indonesian soldiers offered limited protection. protesters also burned items and displayed Indonesian banners.

A Morris man, Roy I. Walking, 39, was severely injured when the northbound car crossed into the southbound lane on Interstate 55 near U.S. 52 causing a chain collision involving Roy Fox 43 Samuel Gholson 38 Thomas Warebrook 25 and Donald Peterson 39. Walking was admitted to St. Joseph Hospital Joliet in intensive care with fair status reported later.
In Washington the Commerce Department estimates retail sales reached 6.116 billion dollars for the week ending April 6, up 16 percent from the same week a year ago.

A Park Forest father Carl W. Anderson 42 and his three sons Barrett 5 Charles 15 and John 9 escaped serious injuries after their station wagon rolled over Friday on Interstate 80 east of Illinois 47. Barrett received a forehead bump and was treated at Morris Hospital before being released. the others were uninjured. Deputies and a wrecker responded to the scene where the vehicle rolled upright in the median. the pavement was dry.
