Morris City approves two subdivision final plats
Morris City Council approved final plats for Trend Builders Subdivision west of Hi Park and Harmon Acres second addition west of Coachlite Manor. Trend Builders plans 10 two bedroom and 22 three bedroom houses with a school site donation of 11,997.60, while Harmon Acres sets 12 lots paying 4,980 toward the same requirement.

Noonan jury selection continues in Grundy County
In Grundy County Circuit Court no new jurors were added during a two hour session for the trial of Grundy County Clerk Mrs Mary Jane Noonan 47 of Dwight. Eight jurors were chosen on Monday with the panel including Sandra Harrop Gardner Dolores Price Rte 2 Dolores Eastman Rte 1 Minooka Hilliary Mullins Kinsman Marva Garrett Coal City Sylvia Newberry Coal City Louis Jackson rural Coal City and Helen Kessler Coal City 90 Walnut St. Prosecutors Stuart Opdycke and Roger Longtin of the Illinois Attorney General office in Chicago lead the case. James Gildea who handled pretrial motions is not participating. Jury selection began with 75 potential jurors available. originally 250 were called and all but 75 were excused or unavailable.

Cuban exile activist shot at Piranha Boatyards
Roman Donestevez a 40 year old exile advocate, slain at his Piranha Boatyards in Perrine Florida. He was found slumped over his desk at 9 44 a m after being shot five times including at least one in the head. Police reported he died minutes after discovery. Donestevez faced federal court orders to stay in the United States due to past trips to Cuba to aid jailed Miami area exiles. His boatyards had faced five bombing attempts and in a prior raid police seized five fully loaded semi automatic rifles three handguns and two boxes marked explosives.

Bromine leak near Dwight triggers mass evacuation
Two Dwight firefighters Phillip Becker 26 and Alex Mc Williams were hospitalized after fumes from bromine released from a semi trailer. The truck remained at Scully Road as Consolidated Freightways removed contents and the EPA and state police weigh safety rules for hazardous materials. The incident prompted evacuation of over 4000 residents and spurred regulatory debate on shipments and emergency plans. The Bromine is highly toxic and could be fatal within minutes if inhaled.
