Kendall Board Approves Residential Rezoning With Restrictions

Kendall County Board unanimously approved a petition to reclassify about two acres from agriculture to residential near Pletcher subdivision in Lisbon Township. Restrictions require a 21-foot bridge across Plattville Creek and a 14-inch concrete tile update, with covenants binding future owners to uphold the limits.

Weather outlook for Dresden and Morris area

The forecast calls for mostly cloudy and windy weather with warmer temperatures and a chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight and Friday. Highs in the upper 50s and lows in the mid 40s, with measurable precipitation noted earlier. Downtown Morris reported 67 degrees at 10 45 a m and Dresden Lock and Dam recorded a 58 degree high and 36 degree low on Wednesday.

Flooding from heavy rains hits Grundy Morris area

Heavy rains caused the Illinois River to flood past flood stage around 9 p.m. Wednesday, rising 5.5 feet by morning as 2.42 inches fell in Morris. Power outages affected about 35 customers, multiple roadways closed, and basements flooded across the county. Officials opened gates, warned residents, and emergency crews assisted with traffic and gas and electrical shutoffs.

Tornado toll rises as rescue completes most area search

Rescue teams completed about 80 percent of the tornado wreckage search in Wichita Falls Texas where 42 people are confirmed dead from the twister. Curfews were imposed citywide and a price freeze ordered as looting complaints rose amid widespread devastation.

Explosive Picric Acid Found at Morris Community High

A Morris High School chemistry bottle containing picric acid, about 20 years old, was found in the lab at 9:30 a.m. by Ronald Dewey. A DuPage County bomb squad was called to dispose of the substance. The substance was moved to the business office and the school considered evacuation contingency if the bottle was disturbed.

State agency seeks witnesses in Interstate 57 shootout

The Illinois Department of Law Enforcement issued a multi state appeal for witnesses to the April 7 shooting near Paxton on Interstate 57. Five people including two police officers were killed. A toll free line 217 379 4776 is manned daily for information between 9 am and 6 pm. Authorities urged anyone who saw portions of the pursuit stops or shooting to contact investigators. About 50 calls were received initially.

High water interrupts area phone service

High water washed out a toll cable on Spring Rd at 7 34 am isolating about 5000 Illinois Bell customers in Coal City and Braidwood Crews hoped to restore service by tonight Braidwood callers rerouted through Wilmington to Joliet for long distance calls The toll line lay beneath a township bridge over the Mazon River west of Higgins Rd which was demolished by a car at 10 pm Saturday Six people were treated at Morris Hospital Local calls were possible in Coal City and to Braidwood and vice versa from Braidwood to Coal City or Wilmington

Aldermanic contests in Morris wards two and four

In Morris, Tuesday’s general election features aldermanic races in wards three and four. Incumbent Art Willmington seeks re election in the third ward against Democrat Kenneth Kennedy, while former alderman Del Linn faces Democrat Jeff Todd in the fourth ward. Ward one and two have unopposed candidates Max Lindsay and John Swezy, respectively. Absentee ballots available at city hall by 5 p.m. today or Monday. city hall closes Friday for Easter. Kennedy, 25, unopposed in primary, supports tackling city hall, parking, sewer separation, landfill, sidewalks, snow removal, and waste without tax increases. He studied law enforcement and political science, works for Caterpillar, and ran for Morris mayor in 1977. Willmington, seeking a second term, touts voter meetings and city projects including landfill, sewer work on Armstrong Street, and debates over a new city hall and the Morris Savings and Loan building.
