Goodfarm parents sue Amtrak over 4 deaths in grade school crash

In Cook County Illinois the parents of Tonya Kincaid 14 Carol Holm Laura Archer Rebecca Gearhart 12 sue Amtrak the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad and the school principal estate for 1.2 million dollars. The suit alleges high speed operation and lack of warning crossing gates and flashing lights.

Fire damages Minooka apartment building. one man overcome

A Minooka man, Mark Moore, 20, was overcome by smoke as a fire broke out at 2:15 a.m. at 201 Mondamon St. in a two story four-unit building. Eight residents were inside. Moore aided others before collapsing and was treated at St Joseph Hospital Joliet. The fire started in a bottom floor east apartment due to a wire short in an electric heater.

Noonan Case: Attorneys Withdraw and Trial Set

Mazon seeks federal and state aid for sewer project

Mazon officials report USDA Farmers Home Administration and Illinois EPA are considering grant and loan requests for a 1.05 million dollar sanitary sewer and waste water treatment system. Project costs include FHA 112000 grant and 420000 loan, IEPA 330000 grant, village 188000. Construction could begin late this fall or next year.

Two-alarm fire during demolition at Federal Water Tower

A two-alarm blaze broke out at the Federal Paper Board Co water tower at 960 E. North St during cutting torches in demolition. Firemen used an aerial truck. no injuries reported and most structural legs remained intact as the area was cleared.

Four men jailed for Godley lounge arson firebombing

In Chicago federal court on Tuesday three Joliet men and one Braceville man received prison terms for the April 15 firebombing of Sasso's Lounge in Godley. Sentences ranged from three to ten years with probation for some defendants. Robert Kirkpatrick pleaded guilty and drew a three year term plus five years probation. The owner, Joseph Sasso, suffered facial burns in the attack.

NIU suspends student after pellet gun shooting

A Northern Illinois University student was suspended in the wounding of a black student on campus. Douglas Riccardo Johnson, 20, Chicago, was hit in the head by a pellet fired from a pellet gun through a car window as Kappa Alpha Psi pledges ran a foot race. The shot came from the Alpha Epsilon Pi house and officials credited Alpha Epsilon Pi for cooperation.

Postpone Open House for Morris at Gardner High

The open house honoring retiree Ray Morris, custodian at Gardner- South Wilmington High School, has been postponed from Thursday to Monday due to a death in Morris family. It will now be held Monday at 7 30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria and the public is invited.

Six candidates seek Morris Grade School Board seats

Six candidates contest three full terms and one two year term on District 54. Incumbents Gerald McTague Janet Matteson Erwin Kelly Jr. and Warren Olson seek three year terms with Olson unopposed for the two year unexpired term. Jane Cliff is the sole non incumbent seeking a three year seat. Candidates are listed with ages addresses and brief bios detailing careers education and community roles.
