Morris Town Board approves appropriation ordinance lowering the 1966 67 budget by about 2500. Total appropriations reach 14100 for Town and General Assistance funds, with road and bridge upkeep remaining at 8000. Last year totaled 16610.
Alex P. Macdonald of 211 W Jackson Sr died Tuesday night in St Luke Presbyterian Hospital Chicago. The body will be brought to the Finland Funeral Home with services yet to be arranged.
Intermittent snow flurries dominate the Grundy County forecast through Friday with temperatures holding steady. Highs near the mid 40s and lows around freezing. At 9 a.m. today Collins Weather Station shows 36 degrees after a Tuesday high of 45 and a overnight low of 34.
At noon Saturday Morris Elementary School district voters will decide on a building program referendum and fill two three year school board terms. Candidates are John C. Hendrickson Arthur Allaben and Dr Leslie Tibbitts. Hayes resignation and Finland's term end created the vacancies.
Mazon School District 40-C voters will decide on a $40,000 bond to buy three lots in Henderson's Subdivision beside the high school. A house would be built for the superintendent, principal, or teachers and two polling places are set at Mazon Grade School and Norman Township Town Hall.
The Morris Lincoln Nursing Home will move in its first 13 patients tomorrow as the 47 bed facility opens next to the Dena Erickson Nursing Home. Mrs Kaszuba says state inspection and architect visits occurred today amid delivery delays. The home will operate with a new kitchen and accepts both ambulatory and bed patients. An open house is planned for Sunday April 17 with more details to follow in the Morris Daily Herald.
Harry E. Brown 80 of 210 E North St longtime assistant supervisor of Morris Township announced his intention to resign at the annual township board meeting held yesterday. He cited poor hearing and eyesight and said one year remains in his present term. Supervisor Ray Hansen said the Morris Town Board of Appointments will fill the vacancy with the board comprising the township supervisor clerk and auditors. He hopes the appointment is made before Grundy County supervisors organizational meeting next Tuesday.
Creditors of Farmers Square Deal Grain Company with offices in Morris and Sene ca were told the board will notify them soon whether operations will continue or cease. A mimeographed notice dated April 5 shows both offices closed April 1 and an audit and inventory are being conducted from a February loan decision by the St. Louis Bank for Cooperatives.
About 2,800 people fled three southern Manitoba towns Morris St. Jean Baptiste and Emerson as flood waters rose in the Red River Valley. Premier Duff Roblin ordered dikes raised and warned peak levels may exceed predictions while U.S. authorities reported multi‑million dollar damages and ongoing dike patrols.
Grand Forks North Dakota remained on constant dike watch as the Red River of the North, after a possible peak, continued a steady decline. Local officials reported continued vigilance though the immediate danger was easing.
Illinois Sanitary Water Board votes to seek penalties against Marquette Heights for untreated discharges to the Illinois River and against Cargill Inc for industrial wastes into surface water and Fox River drainage. It also orders several towns to stop discharges, submit treatment plans, or delay actions to allow corrections.
Mrs. Gladys Bright Morris Community High School Board secretary explains the official ballot for the MCHS board election this Saturday. Four candidates seek two seats with one rural seat filled by a rural resident Henry Smith. in town candidates are Arden L. Chapple Raymond Christensen and Harold Berning. Voters are warned not to vote for more than one in town candidate.
Grundy County districts will hold regular elections next Saturday with candidates vying for three-year terms in several boards. Multiple districts report unopposed slates in grade and high school boards, including District 97 and 40 C, and others list two to four candidates for two or three seats.
Six Midland County High School students charged with theft at Century Wholesale appeared with counsel and parents before Associate Circuit Judge Robert Malmquist. Leonard Mitchell 17 Robert Chally 17 Rex Weathersby 18 Larry Daggett 18 Earl Benson 18 Donald Hughes 16 were placed on five months probation with restitution for the stolen merchandise and time card irregularities. They must be home by 10 30 p m unless with a parent or probation officer and may not drive or leave the county without permission. Court returns Sept 6.
