Moravia Girls Take Fourth At Norwalk Tournament

Moravia Mohawkettes finished 4th among 16 at Norwalk after losses to Norwalk and Ankeny in the consolation. Sheri and Kandi Kaster earned all tournament honors. Key games include a 7-3 win over Winterset and a 1-0 win over East Union with strong pitching by Sheri Kaster.

Northery Fox Hunt Weekend Planned in Unionville

The annual Northéry Missouri and Southern Iowa Fox Hunt starts Friday September 3 in Unionville. United Methodist Church UMW serves a supper beginning Friday evening. A beach show, square dance, radio drawing and events continue through Saturday night.

Class of 51 Holds Reunion at C A Ranch

Twenty three members of the class of 51 met at the C A Ranch Saturday night August 21 for reminiscences and a buffet supper. Garden Club Meets With Ann Repp in Moravia

The Moravia Garden Club met at Mrs. Ant Repp’s home on Wednesday morning August 25. Members agreed to help serve senior citizen meals in October and will also support a Booster club salad supper on October 14. A flower show school in Leon is planned for October 4 5 and 6 for attending members. The club plans to give away two trees at the Falk Festival with a registration box to be placed downtown. Genevieve Morgan won a pilta houseplant over Laura Nelson, Linda Harris, and guest Jane Kaster, who led a program on drying flowers and arranging dried blooms.

Moravia Couple Wed in Albia Methodist Church

Molly Van Benthuysen and Dennie Bolin wed at Albia's Trinity Methodist Church with blue yellow and white flowers. The 7 p.m. ceremony included family members from Moravia Lincoln Nebraska and Columbia Missouri. Attendants wore yellow and white dotted swiss and the reception followed in the church hall with a three tier cake and brass bells motif.

Clark sisters shine at Iowa State Fair horse events

Lisa and Lori Clark placed fourth in open western bareback at the Iowa State Fair among 17 entries. Lori finished sixth in youth activity pleasure with 48 entrants while Lynn, 12, joined junior showmanship. Lori won purple in senior showmanship at the 4-H show and will compete in Ft. Madison rodeo queen contest on September 10.

Farewell party honors Fred McBride and family

A Monday evening farewell gathering at the Nelson Ballanger home celebrated Mr and Mrs Fred McBride and Travis with homemade ice cream and cake. Machinery identification tool loaned to fight theft in Appanoose County

Appanoose County Farm Bureau offers a machinery identification mark ing tool for loan to county farmers. Borrowers need their sheriff’s office ID number, then bring it to the Farm Bureau to affix. Tool loan is for three days with a $1 user fee and a $30 deposit. Deposit refunded on return in original condition. Part of county crime prevention initiative.

Hazel Cooper entered Monroe County Hospital on August 18 and had surgery on August 26. A D Kincade was admitted to Bloomfield Hospital on August 25 for observation. Winnie DuVall suffered a heart attack and was taken to Monroe County Hospital. Sharon Smith moved to Iowa City after receiving a purse pin at Indian Hills College Ottumwa and began work at University Hospital. Jeffry Scott McDonough of Maxwell visited grandparents in the area. Numerous visits described from Ottumwa Oskaloosa Camanche California and Alicia with family and friends at various homes.

Moravia 76ers suffer two losses in week

Moravia 76ers fell 12 10 in extras to the A s Wednesday and 15 2 to Cincinnati Sunday. Ron Van Zante pitched, Jody McDanel caught, Dan Mehrhoff tied game with a solo homer in 7th, and Jake Karzlarich drove in the winning run in the 8th helping the A s win in 8 innings. Cincinnati erupted for seven in the first as Carl Hawkins homered. McDanel had the 76ers' only two hits including a homer. Todd Harp pitched for Moravia. the team stands 22 11 and planned to face Numa next at 8 pm.

Enrollment at Moravia schools this term mirrors last year with 463 students, down seven from 470. High school has 213, junior high 65, elementary 181, and four in special education. Kindergarten 34 and remaining grades listed but incomplete.

Six Moravia FFA members toured St. Louis sights and attended a baseball game, Six Flags, and the zoo. The chapter sold sweet corn at local outlets and Des Moines markets for the second year, Gary Coltrain ushered at the state fair, and teams earned silver ratings at Ames and the state fair.
