The community reports rising flu related student absences yet not enough to close schools. About 20 of a high school and 13 of one grade total 36 students are missing, while Moravia weighs its school future, cooperation plans, and a widening telephone controversy that could divide neighboring areas.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Adams of Newton spent the weekend with Mrs. Nellie Williams. Sunday dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Williams and children of Centerville and others from Ottumwa Des Moines Udell and Moravia attending picnics, dinners and visits at homes in Albia Seymour and Sharon Bluffs park. Funeral attendance for Mr. Andrews and multiple calls and visits to family homes marked a busy week in the region.
Tuesday through Monday visits highlight Pleasant Hill and nearby towns with multiple gatherings. Names such as Dicks Kel ey Argo McAninch Turner and Tarbell appear among family and friends sharing evenings hay rides and anniversaries. A 45th wedding anniversary is noted for Mr. and Mrs. John McAninech with guests listed. A 4-H banquet in Albia is documented with local youths attending.
Mrs Callie Place Ireland of Danville Ta joined Zola Saum and Ora Powell along with Edna Moore and Mr and Mrs H B Spring in Albia Saturday. Mrs Dewey Houser mourns father W E Repp who died Wednesday after a stroke with funeral services held Saturday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Morlaran and relatives visited Centerville and Wright areas. Beacons, Burklands and Springs hosted guests. Oakdale area saw Powell, Spring and Moore families calling on neighbors. Joe Moore family, Darrel Powell, Kippy and others enjoyed Sunday at various homes while Mrs Phillips recovered from illness.
Alvin Spring and others attended a self invited party at Mrs Iona Dordon's home after work Friday to remind her of reaching another milestone and to wish her a happy birthday. Walter Whisler called at Carl Phillips' Saturday. Frank Bennett spent the weekend with his sister Nettie Foster near Washington.
