Harvey Hayes Bob Geiss Dr Avera and Ray embarked Saturday on a week long hunting and fishing trip into northern Canada They aim for elk moose antelope bear and plentiful fishing opportunities The group works hard to prepare and plan despite a year of anticipation
The week offered beautiful fall weather with a shower or two and warm air. Comet sightings were hindered by cloud and haze in the east, possibly due to not rising early enough. There was no school today or Friday as teachers attend a state convention. Frank Woodward reports radishes enjoyed from the garden this past week with seeds from early radishes reseeding for harvest.
Blue Front News reports on Farm Progress Show attendance by George McCannon Gene Huff and FFA members at Van Horne Iowa. Social visits include Sew and So club Bea French and Ladies Aide convention in Unionville, plus multiple family gatherings and farm community events across Albia Newton Moline and Trenton.
Community members attended funerals, visited relatives, hosted housewarmings, and celebrated anniversaries across Albia Ottumwa and surrounding towns. Notable events include 50th wedding anniversaries for Mahin and Le Pointe, and homecomings and college events for Kirksville State Teacher's College. Many names appear with weekend visits to Clarke, Perry, Huff, Wilson, and Cooper families in Albia, Promise City, Oskaloosa, and Oquawka.
Word has been received at the death of Mrs. Hazel Brietengross of Florida. She was formerly Hazel Brown and a voice of W. A. Brown and a cousin to Zell Callen and Mrs. Theo Miller. Zell Pence of Albin, Wyo., spent Tuesday night last week with Mr. and Mrs. Theo Miller. Misses Lilian and Elsie Callen, Frances Burton and Mintia Shoemaker were guests of Mae Me Donald after church Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Argo attended home-coming at Kirksville Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hiatt helped Mr. and Mrs. Gus Hiatt Saturday.
Contie Bobléne attended a Phi Beta Satin party Thursday as Mr and Mrs Roscoe Pennington were Sunday guests at the Herb Boblenz home. Mintia Shoemaker and Jessie Dotottles enjoyed a road trip to Ft Madison Nauvoo Keokuk and back to Centerville with dinner at an Illinois state park. Connie Boblenz attended a bridal shower for Beverly Crow and visited Oskaloosa. Marchelle Walter stayed over with Tracy Pfannebecker. Mr and Mrs Paul Witt visited his mother at Mystic. A scenic drive to Ft Madison Nauvoo and along the river preceded a Tower Lanes supper in Albia for Roy Argo’s 25th anniversary. Charles Burnett of Cincinnati and Verda Argo visited before returning home.
Congratulations go to Mr and Mrs Dick Dulaney on the birth of their daughter Yolanda Kay. The announcement notes visits from Duane Sulser Steve Wayne McDanel and others, with several relatives seen during the weekend and midweek calls.
Debra McDaniel joins Winfred and family in Centerville while Gus Bogart and Huch Adams families visit Ottumwa. Flo Hiner and Delmar Hiner host guests. Marie Cucehria shopped in Ottumwa. A co op dinner at Bill Long’s includes Bob Evans, Tom Pettibone, Rick Long families. Dan and Neal attended Albia homecoming.
Ill health prompts Asa Bukter's call while Martha spends afternoon at Frank Chambers home. Many local families from Kalona Columbus Junction Greenview Silvis Moulton Ottumwa Unionville and Mount Pleasant visit Max Lindley and Hiatt households.
