Silage May Replace Hay In Dairy Ration
Experiments at Town State College show silage can substitute for hay in dairy rations if the grain mix fed with silage is adequately protein supplemented. A high protein grain mix should contain 20–21 percent total protein or 16–18 percent digestible protein. If corn is unavailable, use high protein feeds like cottonseed linseed or gluten meal with bran or oats, to balance seeds such as corn fodder or corn silage.
