The Moravia Post Office joins a new Area Mail Processing plan on October 14 affecting Ottumwa and 13 surrounding offices. Mail from non-local offices will be sent to Ottumwa for postmarking, with postmarks reading U.S. Postal Service TA 525. Moravia mail should show Moravia, Iowa.
Mrs. Grace Dooley of Knoxville visited Bessie Donovan and Genevie Kaling over Saturday and Sunday, sharing time with local residents and catching up during a weekend arrival.
A roundup of visits hospitalizations and gatherings across Knoxville Albia Manchester Oskaloosa and nearby areas. Notables include Norma Lee Faber's bridal shower at Salem church and multiple patients in Albia Des Moines and Manchester hospitals plus regional family visits and a 50th class reunion in Glen Ellyn and Se attle plans.
Auction Saturday night at the McCreary Sale Barns on October 14 with supper provided by local volunteers. Proceeds benefit local candidates. volunteers urged to donate items and arrange pickup with Lee Benz Gladys Harsh or Ralph Spencer.
A Nazarene church missionary meeting was held Wednesday evening with 24 attendees. Larry Smith led new missionary chords, Mrs. Alice Woodward presided and led prayer, Keith Gladfelder gave a Genesis 32 devotional, and Mrs. Uhies taught a Jordan study lesson. Visitors welcome next Wednesday.
The Moravia Rebekah lodge held a regular meeting with Mrs. Leonard Palmer pro-teming for ill Mrs. Cecil Schrodt. Communications read by secretary Mrs. Harsh covered the Home and the State Assembly in Des Moines this week with Mrs. Harold Winans of Moulton presenting the district report upon return. Booster Club serving plans were completed and refreshments of pumpkin pie Dream Whip Halloween candy and coffee were served by Mrs. Harold Burton.
The Ladies of the Missionary Society met at the church basement on Tuesday afternoon October 3 for their regular meeting. The Ladies Aid were invited guests but were sickly represented. The group sang All Hail The Power and discussed a model church with readings, poems, and prayers. Attendees included Isal Sulser Jean Curtis Mabel Moore Sandy Mitchell Elma Davison Anissa Mitchell. Plans were made to assemble articles for the Iowa Soldier's Home.
Next meeting will be November 14. Attendees asked to bring articles to pack boxes for the Overseas Quota. A kitchen shower was held for the church basement. Meeting closed with Psalms 19 14. Refreshments of cookies and punch were served.
Taylor Aid met with Barbara Sievers on Friday October 6 for a regular meeting. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Earl Boyer Mr and Mrs Ivan Harsh Mary Herron Vic Mihalovich Cecil Schrodt Theo Miller Julie Dowd Alberta Spencer Mr and Mrs Jay Wilson and Alan and Mr and Mrs Grant Tadlock. The vice chairman Mary Herron called the meeting to order. Minutes were read and roll call taken with Mary Hiatt joining the club. The group voted to donate to the Band Mothers club for band uniforms and to prepare club calendars for one month. The next meeting will be in November with Alberta Spencer.
A record 92 artists attended Iowa Southern Utilities Co. fourth annual Art-In at Lake Rathbun on Saturday, surpassing last year’s 67. Judges included Richard Cervene of Grinnell College, Richard Dutton of Indian Hills Community College, and Stan Wiederspan, as officials praised clear skies and Lake Rathbun’s beauty for drawing the crowd.
Head of the art department at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant announced the winners after a lengthy deliberation. High School winners include Jacque Mings Washington Laura Lingenfelter Yarmouth Karen Bates Albia. College category winner Alan Chickering Centerville Charles Moore Ottumwa Carol Neal Bonaparte. Adult Amateur winners are G R Burghoff her Centerville Paul Clausing Ottumwa Ann Porter Mt Pleasant Janice Shotwell Des Moines Kristine Evans Cedar Falls. Professional winner James Graham Norwalk Susan Kropa Mt Pleasant Sweepstakes James Graham Norwalk.
