Rites Sunday For Zell Hiatt

Funeral services were held for Delmer LaZell Hiatt 87 at Miller Wehrle Funeral Home. Hiatt a retired farmer and rural mail carrier from Unionville Iowa died Friday at Golden Age nursing home Centerville. He was born October 15 1879 near Hiattsville and married Fiona Chambers in 1914. Survivors include daughter Catherine Hawk three grandchildren two sisters Nora Gladfelder and Bertha Proctor. Burial was in Eaton cemetery west of Unionville.

E T C Club Returns With Pearl Woodward Meeting

The E T C club held its first season meeting with Pearl Woodward. Members shared summer highlights, planned a cooperative supper at Mr and Mrs Karl Tuttles, and played a guessing game with rook. High score went to Ellen Paxston, low to Blanche Kindade, Florence Carson won the door prize.

Ahee of Unionville Iowa completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego California graduating as Honorman of his platoon of about 75 men He received a Dress Blue uniform from Leatherneck Magazine and a meritorious promotion to Private First Class He reports to Camp Pendleton near Oceanside California for further individual combat training.

Mrs. Rose Injured In Labor Day Fall In Bloomfield

Mrs. W. A. Rose, formerly of Hiattville now based in Memphis, fell on Labor Day breaking hip and back. She underwent hip surgery at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield on Sept. 27 and is improving but remains hospitalized for an extended period.

Moravia Town Buys Main Building At Auction

Moravia town purchased the southwest corner building at the square from the Gus Main estate for 1350 dollars to use as garage and storage for street and water equipment and supplies. The town took immediate possession. The building was formerly used by Moravia Produce and later by the government welding school. Mrs Archie Main of Alhia bought cemetery lots from the Gus Main estate that sold at auction Friday.

Mr and Mrs A D Kincade celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at their Moravia home on Sunday. A surprise arranged by Mr and Mrs Jay Clayworth of Carlisle featured refreshments for guests including Mr and Mrs Walt Luedt of Moline and others. The couple, married Oct 3 1942, received many gifts and a decorated anniversary cake.

Mike Dagle of Des Moines was admitted to Monroe county hospital in Albia for an emergency appendectomy on Sunday. His wife Mrs. Leo Dagle stayed with her mother Garnet Brain to be near him as he recovers satisfactorily at the Albia hospital.

School Addition Well Under Way

Construction of the junior high school addition is progressing with bricklayers starting Wednesday. More workers were expected. By Thursday about three fourths of the floors were poured and walls were to take form soon. Basic plumbing and electrical conduits have been laid.
