Death Claims Mrs Walter Lemaster in Moravia Area

Mrs Walter I Lemaster of Moravia died at St Joseph hospital Centerville after a brief illness. Obituary Martha Hvaline Bickford born April 95 1875 near Moravia Iowa died September 30 193? at 53 years 6 months and days. She married Walter I Lemaster March 30 1892 and lived on farms near Morning and Moravia. Survived by husband two children six grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral at United Brethren church Moravia October 3 at 2 30 p m.

Jurors Named for Petit Panel in County Term Beginning November 30

County Clerk Howard Evans announced the list of persons drawn for petit jurors. They must appear on the second Monday of the term at 10 a.m. The term starts November 30. The roster includes Lena Bail, J. I. Udell Crow, Carl Exline, Daniela Moulton, Dotun Moulton, Lydia Fox, Centerville residents, Moravia and Mystic natives, and others such as J. W. Hutton, Joe Johnson, Maude Peatman, Frank Stober, Prank Turner, Fay Wright, John Zimmer, and additional names from Centerville, Moravia, Mystic, Moulton, Canterville, Unionville, Exline, and Cincinnati.

Blakesburg Wins Kittenball Tournament At Moravia Site

Blakesburg defeated Moravia in a Sunday kittenball doubleheader at Gabe Johnson diamond southeast of Moravia. Blakesburg won the first game 11 to 5 after eliminating the colored team from Centerville. In the second game Moravia led 6 to 2 before Blakesburg rallied to win. local errors and weak batting hurt Moravia. Reported Blakesburg was reinforced by five players from Ottumwa.

Homecoming at Enon Last Sunday

Enon held a homecoming and rally day on Sunday October 1 with about 100 attendees at Bible School. Rev Donahoo delivered the morning address, Rev Hebrena of Moravia spoke in the afternoon, and the event featured special musical numbers. Bible School began in 1906 by Rev Donahoo with eleven pupils present.

County Ladies Aids Meet Next Tuesday in Mys te

The fifth annual county Ladies Aids convention will be held at the M. E. church in Mys te on Tuesday October 10 an all day meeting with a cooperative dinner. Reports of the year’s work and committee appointments are on the program along with devotional welcome addresses music and readings. Attendees are asked to bring their own plate cup and silver.

Fine Program at Miller Church

The Moravia area miller Baptist church held a homecoming last Sunday with a large crowd. Morning sermon by Rev Frank Smith followed by a bountiful noon basket dinner and an afternoon program featuring songs, solos, historical notes, and talks. A four week revival concluded with a 6:40 pm young peoples service and Rev Smith closing the day.

W Carl Carr of Besford Iowa has purchased the Seymour Herald and took possession last Saturday. He formerly taught at Moravia High School and had told the Union editor he planned to enter newspapers within a few years. The Seymour field is his new base and locals expect him to succeed in journalism.

Albia Rotary Club Dines in Iconium Evening

The Albia Rotary Club traveled to Iconium for a Monday dinner hosted by Sun day School Class No. 7 of the Methodist church. More than 60 Rotarians and guests attended a program chaired by Fred Everett with remarks from Alfred Clark about a Mexico trip and Charles F. Miller praising Iconium. Rev. Orval Morgan spoke on highways and humane fellowship, and Rev. J. W. Zerbe urged private cemeteries for faults and heart felt handshakes. Music by the Old Gang quartet closed the evening.

Carl Van Zante Wins Hillbilly Contest in Albia Show

Carl Van Zante of Moravia won the hillbilly contest at the King Theatre in Albia Sunday afternoon, beating three other contestants. He played guitar and harmonica together and sang, then performed again during the vaudeville program with Red and Ernie and the Hexin Merrymakers.
