Monroe County Hospital Auxiliary hosts Country Fair at the 4-H fairgrounds on Thursday Oct 4 with dinner 5 to 7 pm. Auction begins 6 30 pm, carnival and booths selling fresh country produce, plus a dance by the Joe Denny band. Proceeds support a hospital snack bar and a TV set for patients.
Miss Arlene Rinehart announces hair care tips as the topic for the ladies adult class at the school house this evening. She says chart material for future classes will be ordered at tonight's meeting.
Members of the Grace Methodist W. S. S. attended a Friday seminar at the Methodist church in Moulton. Attendees included Mrs. Ralph McDonough, president. Mrs. Lula R. Tilimont, vice president. Mrs. Lester Brain, secretary. and officers Mrs. John Dodd, Mrs. D. E. Bishop, Mrs. Frank Wilson, Mrs. Dora Hartinger, Mrs. Bertha Bros har, Mrs. John Veach, Mrs. Mary Burns, Mrs. John Bailey, and Mrs. C. A. Turner.
Mrs Paul Broshar hosted the Progressive club Friday evening. Bridge winners were Mrs N R Ward, Mrs Lester Brain, and Mrs Gerald Morgan. Refreshments included fruit salad cake and coffee served by the hostess.
The adult class at the Moravia High School will hear Walter Gardner of Moravia Farm Service Co. speak on bulk fertilizers and the latest developments in commercial fertilizers this Thursday evening.
The American Legion Auxiliary county convention will be held Wednesday October 10 in Moulton Iowa. Dinner will be served at 6 30 p m. Anyone who plans to go is asked to contact Margaret Brooks or Mary Ann Sloan not later than noon on Monday October 9.
The Church of the Nazarene hosted a welcoming service Sunday at 2 30 pm led by supply pastor Rev A O Weiss. Representatives from Local Ministerial Alliance Center ville Nazarene Albion Nazarene and Knoxville Nazarene attended. The Smiths expressed happiness with the reception and sense of belonging here.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Condra hosted a Sunday dinner honoring their son Wendell of Lone Rock born September 26 and daughter Margaret of Des Moines born October 3. Guests included Marlon Condra and daughter Antonette Wayne Fisher of Blakesburg and Mary Ellen and Minnie Ann. Wendell teaches at Lane Rock schools.
The Past Matrons club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. C A Turner with Mrs. Frances Burton as assisting hostess. A social evening included watching two TV shows and each person singing the songs on her napkin before refreshments of ice cream cake dessert and coffee.
Word reached here that Elvy Gillaspie has had a heart attack and is hospitalized in Wheatland Wye. Many friends and relatives wish him a speedy recovery.
Members of the Church of the Nazarene and friends held a reception and pounding for Rev and Mrs H L Smith and their children at the Nazarene parsonage Tuesday evening. The event began with a hymn sing and prayer by Mrs Smith, followed by social time and refreshments of pie and coffee.
Carol Day was installed Sunday afternoon at the Mason ic Hall as Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow for Girls. Officers installed included Sandra Hiatt as installing Worthy Advisor and Nancy Roblenz presenting Day with the crown. Guests from Moulton Unionville and Moravia attended the ceremony with Rev Banks Doggett giving the benediction and a reception following.
Moravia high school FFA judging team members David West Tom Pettibone and Carl Rousé with John Murdy as alternate earned a silver emblem in dairy cow and dairy heifer judging plus management and pedigree problems at the Waterloo Dairy Cattle Congress. The group joined 53 teams earning silver emblems and attended a banquet hosted by John Deere & Co. where all four boys and their instructor Bernie Valentine received official FEA T-shirts.
Lois Talbert daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Scott and Luther Caster Jr son of Mr and Mrs Luther Caster of Moravia married at the Christian church parsonage Unionville on Saturday September 29 The single ring ceremony was performed The bride wore a navy dress with white accessories Both are Moravia high school graduates He served four years in the navy including time in Japan He works for Maytag in Newton and the couple will live in Monroe

Men women meet 7 30 pm Evening Service. Official Board meets after evening service. Monday October 8 7 30 pm Choir Practice. Wednesday October 10 7 30 pm Prayer Meeting. Junior Missionary group meets October 10 with Donna Ree Card. all first through fifth graders invited.
Church of the Nazarene presents Sunday School at 10:00 AM with Pastor H LaVern Smith and Superintendent Frank Woodward. Worship at 11:00 AM. Evening evangelistic prayer meeting at 7:45 PM Wednesday at the church.
Donald Plum pastor Mira leads service at ten in the morning with Sunday School at eleven. Mr and Mrs Burl Stanley of Nampa Idaho will attend and Mrs Stanley will speak briefly on the communion service at the International Convention in Des Moines last Sunday before the communion.
Rev Lynn J King leads a Ten Commandments series with services at 10 55 am and 7 30 pm including communion. Morning worship 10 55 am, evening service 7 30 pm. The Mats Station congregation led by Pastor Glen Lochhead and Sunday School Superintendent Kermit Gladfelder held Sunday services at 9:45 a.m. after a 9:00 a.m. Sunday School with an attendance of 34 people.
United States Senator Burke B. Hickenlooper will make a public appearance at the Centerville courthouse this evening. Arrangements for his coming have been made by George Milani, county chairman of the Republican Central committee. The public is invited to hear the senator and attend.
Luther Caster and Mrs Maude Coltrain attended the funeral of Elkanan Hellyer brother of Mrs Caster. Services were Sunday afternoon at Swanson funeral home Mystic with relatives traveling from Denver Rockford Des Moines and other cities. Hellyer age 91 lived in Iconium Moravia and Mystic areas.
Mrs Nellie Williams and Kenneth Coltrain family joined Mrs Pearl Boyer at Newton to celebrate Mrs Mary Wadsworth turning 90. Attendees included four daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren totaling 51. The Wadsworth family formerly lived in the community.
Mr and Mrs Charley Hellyer entertained numerous relatives at Sunday dinner with attendees from Denver Rock Island Corydon and Des Moines including Monroe Lewis Ruby Clyde McCumber Merrill Horne Hellyer and Donald families among others.
The FE. T. C. club gathered Friday afternoon at Mrs. Frank Lathen s country home. Roll call prompted salad recipe sharing. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Leonard Palmer and Mrs. Albert Veach during the rock diversion. Refreshments included salad potato tips grapes cookies and coffee.
The Moravia Band won second place and $50 at Old Settlers day in Lancaster Missouri on Saturday. Bloomfield school secured first place in the event.
Miss Donna Underwood daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Underwood Ottumwa and Kenneth Gatlin son of Mrs C E Ellis Ottumwa were married at 8 o clock Thursday evening Sept 27 at the Evangelical United Brethren church. Rev Lynn King read the double ring ceremony in the presence of immediate families. Attendants were Beverly Grinstead Ottumwa and Carl James Chariton. The bride wore a royal blue linen dress white velvet hat and red rose corsage and carried a white Bible. A reception followed at the bride’s parents home. They will live in Ottumwa.
Amy Hiner and brothers hosted a Sunday dinner entertaining relatives and friends. Attendees included Glen and Mrs McNair Ferrell Purvis Linda Patricia Bohm Allie Taylor Cora Murphy Pearl Runnels Merle Adams Essie Purvis Floriene Duane Adams James Paw Runnels Eddie Sondra Sheryle Gerald Davison Harold Jerold Donald Eugene Jackson Paul Theodore Bohm Delbert Calhoun Richard Karl Lee.

Harold Masons received a mounted Moravia Produce picture valued at 7.50 to 10.00, while eligibility remains for the next correct call after 1:00 pm Thursday.
Dr J Richard Sneed pastor of First Methodist Church Los Angeles named Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of California. Installation at San Francisco last week reported by F S Firkins, a local Masonic official. Moravian supporters also extend congratulations for his service in the high post.
Iva Strunk expresses gratitude for the kind cards and letters received during hospital stay and after returning home. She notes the messages will be long remembered.
Mr. and Mrs. John D. Copeland of Pettus Texas announce the birth of a daughter on September 28 at a Beeville hospital. The baby weighed 6 pounds 9 ounces and is named Terri Suzgann. The mother is the former Shirley Coffin. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Coffin of Tuleta and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Copeland of Pettus, with great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coffin of Moravia.
