Homecoming Near as Private Bivin Arrives at Mitchell Field
Pvt William Carl Bivin reached Mitchell Field New York after seven months in the European theater with the 8th Air Corps. He expects to be sent to a medical facility in Clinton Iowa for convalescent furlough in about 10 days and plans to return home soon for recovery. Max A Martin di Moravia formerly a first lieutenant with the 15th Infantry Regiment in Italy has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valorous conduct on February 12 1944. He exposed himself to enemy mortar fire to direct and adjust mortar fire from 160 yards away, remaining at his post as shells struck nearby and the unit shattered the enemy forces.
