A Baptist church sponsored a mock wedding and gift shower at the Frederick Koehler home honoring Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Burton and Miss Irena Sharp. The event featured a ring ceremony, bridal party, and refreshments, with many local residents attending.
Moravia High School states juniors are not obligated to purchase class rings or jewelry. The decision rests with parents, who will receive permission forms. no student may buy jewelry without written parental consent. Superintendent Wm H. Young notes the crop failures affect family finances.
Moravia High School dairy cattle judging team placed 10th among 36 schools at the state contest during the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo. Team members Alvin Dondhoo James Nash Charles Reich and Donald Easter, coached by Clifford Hardie, earned 1887 points led by Nash's third place tie in overall judging and Dondhoo's closer tie in Brown Swiss judging.
Moravia High School baseball, missing regulars Charles Reich and Donald Kuster who were at a dairy cattle judging event in Waterloo, lost 12 to 6 to Cincinnati High Tuesday afternoon. The return game is set for Friday at 4 p.m. on the west diamond. admission is by free will offering. Cincinnati travels to Moravia for the Friday rematch.
Enon Bible school at Enon, held in the Enon schoolhouse, celebrated a homecoming with ideal weather but muddy roads. Ninety nine attended Bible school and eighty five joined the afternoon program including piano, songs, talks, and an address led by Rev. J C Behrens. Ten charter members from 1908 attended the event marking the school’s long history with Rev W P Conshon as founder.
M E Friday menu lists fried chicken gravy Irish potatoes sweet potatoes cole slaw hot biscuit and pie. Mr and Mrs Will Halden of Grandy Center visited Sunday with J W Halden at his home.
Appanoose county corn-hog committee sets voting for Taylor township on Thursday evening to decide on another season of the program. Polling place is the Community Building in Moravia with Chariton township voting at a different site tomorrow evening. All producers, signers or not, are urged to vote.
P D Schreiner announces that on October 6 the world champion woodcutter will visit Moravia for a demonstration. More details about this exhibition will be given in next week's Union.
David H Epperly and husband of Anna Whisler, born 1864 in Wayne county Utah area, moved to Iowa as a child, later settled near Unionville. He had seven children, sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and was a Brethren Church member who died at 80 years old in Whittier California. His body returned to Fairview cemetery near Udell Iowa for burial beside his first wife.
Rally Day for the Sunday School at the local Methodist church aims for a large attendance. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. with orchestra music, songs from the primary department, and other numbers. A noon basket dinner invites members and friends and families. G. T. Harn of Albis is listed as class 9 teacher.
Misa Oakle Hunter daughter of Mr and Mrs Perry Hunter of Formosa Kangax married Rev W Hall Swaim son of Mr and Mrs Frank Swaim of Moravia in a September ceremony at the bride’s home. The Rev J A Hichsliff officiated. Guests then shared a wedding supper as relatives looked on.
Basil Cowell Post of the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary plan a joint officers installation at the Post Home on Monday evening October 8. A covered dish supper will begin at 7 o'clock.
Mrs Arthur Main and their son visited last week at the home of Mr and Mrs M P Main before leaving Saturday for Madison Wisconsin. Mr Main has served six months as appraiser of farm lands and town residences for government loans and needed to renew his contract in Madison on Monday.
Malcolm Pilkington formerly of Moravia now of Flagstaff Arizona spent a few days visiting relatives here. He brought a 40 passenger Yellow Cab motor coach to town Tuesday for inspection before delivering it to the Arizona State Normal College at Flagstaff. John Johnson Jr joined the trip from Moravia to Flagstaff on Wednesday morning.
The 83rd district convention of I O O F and Rebekahs proceeded through heavy rain with delegates from Mystic Dean Unionville Centerville Cincinnati Exline Moulton and visiting members from Louville Albis Blakesburg Bloomfield and Sigourney. District officers praised the hosts for smooth arrangements as both groups met in Moravia for sessions, reports, degree work, speeches, and a late night program.
A family gathering at Ray McCord's home hosted a cooperative dinner honoring Mr. and Mrs. C. Vosburgh of Buckeye Arizona and Mrs. Jessie Tennis of Oskaloosa. Guests shared pictures and stories of Arizona and California travel. Miss Lyon sang. Mrs. Spring spoke on Blessed Memories of her grandmother.
U B Church lists Wednesday October 20 dinner with chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, cottage cheese, relish, bread, butter, jam and chocolate bars with whipped cream. Dr and Mr C T Slavin are in Chicago this week visiting the Century of Progress and expect to return Friday.
Sanday School opens at 10 a m led by Birdie Main. Evening services start at 7 90. Rev Has tis to preach subject And jict by faith only on Jan 2 24. Bible Study plans for Wednesday evening.
The United Brethren Church lists Sunday School at 10 a.m. led by M. H. Johnson, morning worship at 11, Christian Endeavor at 6:30 p.m., evening service at 7:30, choir practice at 7:30, and a Thursday evening meeting at 7:30 led by pastor W. T. Boston.
Next Sunday features Sunday school led by Mr Lyle Beery starting at 10 am with classes, a special program, and a noon basket dinner. Epworth League at 6 30 pm and Evangelistic sermon at 7 30 pm. Thursday 7 30 pm official board meeting after devotional. Wesley service at 9 30 am and Sunday School at 10 30 am led by Pastor J G Behrens.
Community church notices announce Sunday School at 10 a m with Supt Miss Mayme Callen and morning worship at 9 45 or 11 depending on the service, Young Peoples meetings at 7 p m, Ladies Aid Thursday, Epworth League events, Boy Scouts Saturday, and a Monroe County Ep Worth League Rally Monday with delegations from Iconium Fairview Hilton and other churches. The Young Peoples group marks its five year anniversary next Sunday evening and invites all to join.
A large Coulson rural school Parent-Teacher Association gathering at the schoolhouse last Thursday evening featured social time and performances by Restling-Doyle Hampton Callen Duet Lillie and Elsie Callen and Loren Walter. A business session elected officers for the October 18 meeting.
