Moravia Reds finished 14 wins in 18 games under floodlights in Moravia. Pitcher Paul Underwood dominated with 181 strikeouts and a .301 team batting average powered by 148 hits, while errors hindered clean results. The club played strong opposition from Albia Centerville Ottumwa and Bloomfield, finishing with a potent 118 runs for and 50 against.
A cooperative dinner was held on the Iconium Christian church lawn Sunday in honor of Ray Derby of Diamond Wyoming, son of Mr. and Mrs. Algie Derby, who is visiting relatives after eight years away. Moravia High School baseball defeated Cincinnati High last week at home, marking the first Moravia win against Cincinnati in four years. The note recalls a prior Moravia basketball streak over Cincinnati that ended at nine straight wins in their season opening meeting, with nine Moravia victories spanning three years.

Mr and Mrs M P Main of Moravia celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a noon 12 o clock commemoration attended by 28 guests and a 2 to 6 pm open house at their Wabash avenue home. The event included a dinner for eight guests from the wedding party and more than fifty arrivals, with yellow and white cakes and gifts from friends and relatives.
Officials in Washington approve Moravia school WPA work planned to improve grounds and repair the building. The project funds total 2098 dollars with 1170 federal and 928 local money to be spent.

The annual American Legion post election named Lester Brain as Commander with Tet Vice-Hat Waughop and 2nd Vice-Roy Matherly. Other officers include Adjutant Von Tracy Finance Officer Howard Smith Historian J F Albert Chaplain W G Lagle and an executive committee. Joint installation with the Auxiliary is set for October 14 with a covered dish at 7.
Announcements from Ap panoose county announce a Republican Women's Club gathering in Centerville at the Association of Commerce rooms on Saturday October 5. A covered dish lunch is planned at one o'clock and state President is expected to attend and speak. All county women are invited.
The Main family celebrates 50 years of marriage as Arthur Main and his wife reflect on nearly four decades in business on the square. The shop, now part of the Moravian Union complex, has long served neighbors with Arthur C. Main later moving into Madison Wisconsin real estate. They have three children Bob Charlotte and Donald. Bob and Charlotte missed the anniversary celebration while the couple remains in good health and active in their community.
The Past Matrons club met at Mrs. A G Broshars home for a farewell party for Mrs E D Kennedy a former club president and faithful member. President Mrs C T Slavin presented a token gift as thanks for her steady service. The club lamented losing Mrs Kennedy yet celebrated her advancement. The next meeting will be at Mrs Z C Callens on Nov 6.
Farewell receptions for the departing Moravia ministers and their families dominated last week. The Century Club hosted Rev. Zerbe and Rev. Behreng families at Cameron home on Thursday. A Moravia M E Church and United Brethren farewell for Rev. and Mrs. W T Boston and son followed on Friday and Monday, with about one hundred attending. Boston family leaves for a new field. Behrens and Zerber families plan to depart later in the week.
Class No 9 of the Moravia Methodist Sunday School will sponsor a reception for the new minister Rev C L Ellis and his wife in the church parlors Friday evening. All members and friends of the church are invited and urged to attend. The reception will begin at 7 00 oclock with a covered dish supper in which each family is asked to contribute. Following the meal there will be an AB program.
Homecoming at Miller Church southeast of Moravia set for Sunday Oct 6 with an all day program centered on a noon basket dinner. The schedule includes Sunday School at 10, opening exercise, lesson study, 11 o clock preaching by Rev Newton Carmon, musical selections, readings, duets, histories, talks by visiting ministers and a 1 30 afternoon program.
U B Aid lists a dinner menu for Wednesday October 11 featuring fried chicken with gravy mashed potatoes sweet potatoes green beans cottage cheese apple salad bread whipped cream coffee and related preparations.
Rumors from Grinnell suggest Milwaukee Road may buy the M and St L line between Mason City and Albia with Moravia as division point. If true, Moravia would gain relocated tracks and freight and passenger trains, boosting growth and population.
Enon rural school observes Homecoming Sunday October 6 for both week day and Bible school attendees. Miss Lucile Coltrain leads events with morning and afternoon programs, piano solos, songs, and addresses by Rev Donahoo and Rev Edwards. Basket dinner at 12:30 and numerous former teachers and pupils attend.
