County ladies aids are invited to a convention at Chariton River Brushy church eight miles north of Plano five miles west and two and a half miles south of Iconium on October 14, 1952, starting at 10 a m. Fred Lasley Named Extension Director for Appanoose County
Fred G. Lasley of Columbia Missouri has been named County Extension Director for Appanoose County effective November 16 1952. The appointment announced by Ora Powell president of the Appanoose County Farm Bureau and Floyd Andre Director of the Extension Service Iowa State College awaits State Board of Education approval. Lasley succeeds John E MecCaughey who held the post for 24 years and is completing a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics at the University of Missouri. He previously earned a BS in General Agriculture and worked at Central Missouri State College. Lasley served in the US Army Air Force 1942 to 1945. He and his wife will move to Centerville after housing is found and he undertakes training with Town Agriculture Extension Service prior to taking the post.

Odell Community bids farewell to Deeters in church open house
A Brethren church farewell open house honored Rev W R Deeter and his wife after nine years as pastor. Mrs Deeter’s health prompted retirement and a move to Topeka Kansas to be near their sons. Goode Elevator adds capacity at Albia doubling storage
The Goode elevator at Albia unveils a new addition that more than doubles storage to 13,600 bushels. The older left elevator, built in 1949, holds about 10,000 bushels. John Goode reports Monday's bean run at about 10,000 bushels from a wide region reaching northern Missouri. Bean harvest peaks with ideal conditions. some combining difficulties noted with overripe pads on top while bottom plants are immature. Community yields average 20 to 30 bushels per acre, with one report near 30. Corn picking has begun for feed, and corn yields are expected to be among the largest in years.
