Pauline Broshat, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ted Hroghar, wed Mr William Donovan at Unionville Missouri before her marriage Sept 11. The couple moved to Centerville Thursday. Pauline attended Moravia high school while William graduated in 1940.
Mira J W Halden of Moravia was among five P E O sisters honored by the Moulton chapter on September 22 for fifty years or more of membership. Each honoree had a candle lit while names were read, received small corsages and linen handkerchiefs bearing a hand painted star in the corners.
Thirty six members of the Appanoose County American Legion auxiliary attended a Tuesday meeting and cooperative supper at the Legion Home in Moravia. The red white and blue table decor, a bingo session, and a note about Ruth Hism of Centerville aiding at the meeting are recorded. The Fifth District fall conference is set for Oct 6 in Newton as a joint meeting.
Relatives and friends visited Miss Faye Platt at her Moravia home Sunday to surprise her and her mother on her birthday eve. Attendees included the Boyers of Centerville and Van Dalens of Albia, along with Erwins of Des Moines, Hiatt and Day families, and many local residents. Guests shared meals, discussed family visits, and noted a scheduled Red Cross gathering planned by John Vesch and the Mora Red Cross unit.
Committee signals another salvage drive for Moravia County. Plans for the Moravia Library benefit auction sale on October 10 at the Community building are under way with several committees soliciting help. Tag Day raised over $16 for library support. John D. Veatch set up a salvage depot at his implement store and will accept scrap. farmers may bring scrap to designated addresses for pickup.
The Appanoose county War Price and Rationing board announced October 15 as the closing date for home canning sugar registration. executive secretary Henry C. Adams notes wartime sugar prices have averaged seven to seven and a half cents per pound, with July saving residents over $48,000 across the county.
N. R. Ward, Moravia merchant, is confined to St. Josephs hospital in Centerville for treatment of a compact lung. A hospital attendant reports he will remain there until the ailment clears. Ward was taken to the hospital Thursday evening, Sept. 24.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Broshar and Mr. and Mrs. Chet Broshar co hosted members of the Progressive club at the Paul Broshar residence on Thursday evening. Four tables played bridge with Mrs. John Veach and Mrs. W H Young winning high scores. Refreshments were served.
Antiquity Lodge No. 262 A A F and AM will meet on October 5 with R G Wilson W M presiding. Guests include Mr and Mrs Clell Long and other locals at the Long home north of town. The day features a cooperative noon dinner and birthday celebration for Charles Long with family and friends.
Mr and Mrs Paul Boyer marked their silver anniversary on Sept 27 at their home southwest of Moravia with relatives and friends. They were wed Sept 26, 1917, by Revightshoe at Stella Carters home and have lived in Appanoose County except eight and a half years in Montana. Their five children attended, including Harold L Boyer at Ft Lewis Ada Boyer cashier at Benteco Centerville, and others at home. Guests included numerous relatives and neighbors from Centerville and surrounding areas.
Local residents Mr. and Mrs. John Dodd and others attended the annual Farm Bureau meeting at the Church of Christ in Centerville. Karl Fischer was elected county president with Theo Miller as vice president, and Mrs. Crai Daniels of Moulton was reelected president of the women’s work. A hospital patient in Centerville Thursday received a blood transfusion and is improving.
Mrs Hicks and Mrs Pabst traveled from Des Moines to visit with relatives. Hes ripest Roberts and daughter joined the group to spend time with Mrs Gaylord and the sister during their stay.
