Local families gathered Tuesday night for the Monroe County alfalfa banquet where a State humorist from Oklahoma, billed as a progressive town farmer, took the stage. He delivered a stuttering, stammering routine that drew more humor than expected before revealing his talent as an entertainer.
Wayne Clark won top money in the alfalfa prize field with a second place, while Francis Turner earned fifth. Iowa leads in autos owned and road mileage, as town cars and crops boast strong yields. Moravia mourns Diane Wilson, a polio death linked to the illness, though not the immediate cause.
Local notices detail weekend visits by Udell residents to Albia Oskaloosa and Centerville. People travel for family gatherings and hunting while church groups plan Brethren W M S activities and a December meeting. Rev J G Dodds of Akron Ohio will be guest speaker for Udell church events weekend of November 30 with a pageant and slides slated for National Conference commemorating 250 years of the Brethren church.
Wesley WSCS met Thursday afternoon with Mrs Frances Burton eleven members two guests and three children. Wesley MYF met Tuesday evening with popcorn and cocoa served. A cooperative Thanksgiving supper will be served at Wesley on November 24. Ray Charity will show slides and speak. Clara Robins family moved to Moravia. Ernest West and others visited Ames for agriculture student events and the All Ag banquet with about 600 attendees. Various visits occurred at homes of Wilson Harsh Kalvig Donovan and others. Bazaar and supper at E U B church Monday evening.
The Board of Supervisors of Appanoose County met in regular session with Lee Benz Karl Extine and Glen Johnson present. They approved claims in the General Fund for Centerville Municipal Waterworks Centerville National Bank and salaries for Lee Benz Darl Extine and others as listed totaling amounts shown.
A compiled list shows various payments from county offices including postage, record deeds, school instruction, treasurer expenses, services, printing, mileage, and hospitalizations. Named entities include Farrswnth, Hargis, Morlan, Irwin, Southern Utilities, Moravia Union, Jowagian Printing Co, and St Joseph Mercy Hospital among others. The entries cover auditors, treasurers, sheriffs, clerks, and relief payments with numerous suppliers and vendors.
Quckler Byrd and Totley Louise receive cash relief at Thriftway Grocery and other feeds. Formetich Danna and Wright Lettie listed for cash relief and postage. U.S. Postmaster and Warnick & Son included for services and food. Ford Appanoose County Tela Co. and Centerville National Bank show with holdings 192.50 and 20.80.
