Mr and Mrs A C Main hosted a family dinner Sunday honoring their nephew Buie who left Centerville for Des Moines where he was inducted as a corporal in the army. Guests included Clyde Main of Centerville Harriet Lee Main of Knoxville Christing ae of Burlington and Mrs Cora.

Mothers wives and daughters of service men will be entertained Saturday evening November 7 at 7 30 by the Mayan unit of the American Legion auxiliary. Mrs Lea Hiatt announced the meeting inviting all women related to service men to attend and pledged a large turnout.

United States war savings bonds sales at the Moravia post office in October totaled 7518.75, the largest monthly amount yet. Postmaster and War Bond committee members noted buyers favored higher denominations, including $500, $100, and $50 bonds, with many $25 bonds also purchased. Township volunteers conducted extensive personal outreach in rural areas.

State y celebrated his 98th birth day as the lone Civil War veteran in Appanoose County. Streepy, son of Anna, is now the last of three Civil War veterans noted in the area, with two others William Shuck and Byron D. Bates recently passing away. Streepy, who enlisted in Union Company 136th Township in August 1862 at age 18, was wounded at Marks Hill Arkansas in 1864 and later mustered out in 1885. He worries about great nephews Max and Robert Streepy serving in the current U S service.
Lyle Jones of Moravia was pledged to the Zeta Theta Gamma fraternity on Parsons College pledge day. He was among 70 students officially pledged to Parsons four sororities and fraternities on campus.

A series on increasing egg production opens Thursday at 8 pm in Moravia Public School. Paul Broshar and William Gardner lead the session focusing on culling and live brood stock for instruction. Anyone interested in poultry is urged to attend.
Moravia area attendees gathered in Albia for the fourth annual Alfalfa Banquet with awards for top alfalfa producers. Prize winners include W. J. Scieszinski, Wendell Rowles, A. E. Dicks, Guss Luss, Gerald Gay, Leo Coady, Glen Chidester, Earl Bettis, W. T., Ed McGrath, C. Long, J. G. Judge, Andy Donahue, and H. A. Betsinger. Guest speaker N. W. Gaines of the University of Nebraska spoke. program also featured M. C. Lowenberg, Roy Himelick, Nobuy Wilkinson, Glaxence Murray, and award presentations by GA LingwWeaver. W. Hortzell served as master of ceremonies.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Condra and their children joined relatives Sunday at the home of his mother Mrs E E Condra near Seymour. The dinner honored Mr and Mrs Gene Condra of Los Angeles who spent the day with his mother and six siblings. Gene has enlisted in the air corps as an electric welder and will leave for active duty soon.
Sylvan VanDorin, son of Mr and Mrs W H VanDorin, returned on a 10 day coast guard furlough from Brookline Massachusetts. About 40 relatives and friends gathered at the VanDorin home for a Sunday visit. Attendees included Carl Noe and family Betty Murphy Ruse man and family L B VanDorin and family of LeRoy and others from Sabine and nearby areas.
Unofficial election tallies show results for U S Senator and state offices across Taylor Township and Appanoose County. Noted are candidates Wagner Longie Sohmeen Parker LeCompie Dukes Harein Valentine Wells Brain Broshar Hiatt and others with party affiliations and district roles.
Unofficial returns from Appanoose county show Republicans leading in general races, mirroring statewide results. Gov. George A. Wilson appears set to defeat Clyde Herring for the Senate, Bourke B. Hickenlooper leads Nelson Kraschel for governor, and Karl W. LeCompte holds a wide edge in the fourth district. In Taylor township 298 votes were cast, with 220 straight Republican ballots and 65 Democratic. Polls drew a late surge after 8 p m, and the final precinct tally arrived after 9 a m Wednesday.

Mrs. Max Stover of Creston visited with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Gus Tisue near Moravia. She left for Americus Georgia to join her husband as he receives his Army Air Corps wings.

A three week evangelistic camp meeting closed Sunday night at the United Brethren Church. Rev H Nell Maten of Glidden led messages and songs each evening, conducting three services weekly with prayer meetings at four homes each morning. Twenty seven conversions occurred during the revival. Pastor Rev G M Talbott assisted at all services.
A cooperative dinner was hosted at the W. T. Irelan home Sunday to honor Mr and Mrs Junior Burdock on their recent marriage and to celebrate Mrs Burdock s birthday anniversary. Guests included Elvin Stocker family Elbert Lockman Donald Mae Gilliland Mae Irelan Raymond Lockman Billie Dorothy Jean and W T Irelan and others.
Nole Banschuls of spiel Lake and Duane Veach, son of Albert Veach, arrived Wednesday for a visit and will stay five days through November 5. Veach's daughter Delma June traveled to Cedar Falls to visit her uncle, a Town State teacher. They were accompanied by Dennis McDonald.
Mrs. Orville Burton, Worthy Matron of Moravia chapter, attended the Grand Session in Cedar Rapids on October 27 to 29 with Dr. Mary Wheeler of Centerville. The group included Mrs. Fern Driskell of Centerville, Miss Marietta Wood of Moulton, Mrs. Pearl Hunter of Albia, and Mrs. Lee Brown of Centerville.
