Iconium Scouts Attend Iowa Game as Guests of University
The Iconium Scouts traveled to Iowa City last Saturday to attend the Towa-George Washington football game as guests of the University. Seventeen Iconium troops joined leaders Carl Calfoun, L. H. Priebe, Roll McCord, Ray McCord, and Charles Tarbell. Center Villa sent 77 scouts while Cincinnati sent 12 and Rey Rowe’s troop brought eight to Unionville. University Athletic Association reports 1,000 in attendance with Ottumwa area showing muted turnout.

Caris Banquets Squad At Close Of Season
The Moravia High School football team closed its season in a game against Moulton last Friday. Coach Caris hosted a banquet at his home Saturday evening at 6:30. Superintendent Irelan and Assistant Coach Barghahn attended along with most of the squad. Wilbur Smith was elected captain for next year. With many returning players, Moravia shows strong prospects for next season. Basketball practices began with many showing up, and the first home game is December 4 against Exline on the Moravia court.

Wesley Long Home Destroyed By Fire
A fire destroyed the Wesley Long dwelling on the Mrs H S Turner farm north of Moravia early Wednesday. Most household goods and possessions were saved. origin unknown but suspected a defective flue. Mr Long found the blaze at five AM and help arrived too late to save the house. Insurance coverage was reported to partially cover the loss.

Noble J Main lifelong Moravia resident died Thursday October 20 at 7 20 am aged 74 years 7 months 2 days Born March 1 1867 in Appanoose county Iowa he lived all his life in the area He married Mary A Stark January 19 1882 and they had seven children and nine grandchildren He was a devout United Brethren Church member and a widely respected neighbor known for hospitality and industry His death follows a period of ill health but was sudden in onset The obituary notes his likeness to community welfare and concludes with a religious reflection on resurrection and rest for the people of God

Dodd Family Wins Declamatory Medals Across Years
Three Dodd sisters from the local area amassed multiple Lynch Declamatory medals in humorous and dramatic divisions from 1924 to 1931. Arlene won in 1931 in humor with The Collegiate Conglomeration Corporation, using a piece by sister Marjorie Gard The End of a Perfect Day. Dorothy Lou earned 1929 dramatic honors with The Last Leaf and later placed in home and district contests, while Marjorie claimed 1924 and 1925 humorous prizes and contributed to preliminary district contests at Mystic Blakesburg and Centerville. The sisters also competed with John Fletcher Academy at Oskaloosa in 1996.
