irregular ballot casting noted in Appanoose county election
Election in Appanoose county follows national irregular patterns with ballots scratched to favor individuals. 1950 and 1952 turnout figures are recalled, with 7425 votes cast Tuesday versus prior years. Early courthouse returns favored Democrats but later totals showed Republican gains in larger towns. The Rathbun dam issue and veteran candidates influenced results as electees prepare to govern.
