Mail Comes Horseback Once or Week In Early Days Here
Moravia history recalls early mail service tied to transport. Edwart Reich first postmaster operated from farm building later used as store and post office. Riders like Joseph Suitiner carried mail weekly from Unionville, later stagecoaches twice weekly from Ottumwa to Centerville. Rail connections grew with Keokuk Western and C B Q lines. Milwaukee and Iowa Central routes reshaped life, shipping livestock and goods, while excursions to Marshalltown and Eddyville became cherished community events.
