The Moravia Union reflects on ending a long era of delivering the newspaper for charitable efforts. After over a decade assisting news distribution locally and 28 years in Moravia, the team notes a forthcoming change and expresses mixed feelings about the transition.
The writer reflects on years of attending meetings and events with camera in hand, the joy of covering girls basketball, and memorable study missions withNational Newspapers Assn and the U.S. Navy. Thirty six countries visited, 28 with Katherine, memories outweigh financial rewards, and many slides and pictures have graced the Union. Readers sent letters praising coverage of the study mission to Oriental countries and South Pacific Islands.
The Moravia Union will benefit from an aggressive staff and newer offset printing after the Dinsmores take ownership. Moravia aims to attract street improvements and new businesses near Rathbun lake while the Charity family will remain interested and assist with publicity and job printing at the Moravia Printing Co.
Residents and families shared visits and dinners across Chariton Ottumwa and nearby towns. Harold Huff hosted and joined relatives Donnie Felkners Clint Albertson and Leroy Follett with Loy Free in Ottumwa while Lavon Blozovich and Polk Codad joined at Chariton for dinner at the Blue Grass Inn. Nevella Shepard visited her mother Helen Bear as Dwight Milburn and family attended a lakeside picnic for Howard Teater's birthday.
Mrs Daphne Shepard Pree notes social visits in Griffinsville and North Bend. Attendees include Stella Hart and Lowell Shepard at Centerville church breakfast. Ava Lang with Hope Teater. Jerry and Ruth McNair at a Hope Teater dinner. the Piano Kitchen Band at Centerville Care Center. Nevella Shepard at Golden Age Manor tea. Mechem and Owen wedding in Des Moines. Hope Teater moves to Newton.
