Moravia Suffers Morning Power Outage From Transformer Failure

An electrical outage in Moravia occurred around 10 50 am Wednesday when a large transformer at the Moravia substation failed. Temporary service was restored in the business district and most of town within about 2 hours 45 minutes. A mobile substation from Ottumwa was hooked up to cover the outage, with planks brought from Centerville due to heavy rains, while rural lines and parts of town remained dark until service resumed. Officials cited possible mechanical failure or moisture at a bushing as the cause and noted growing local load may require substation updates.
