It cites personal anecdotes of improved community ties, church attendance, health, and time with neighbors, arguing such shifts foster lasting prosperity and a healthier attitude toward change.
Moravia public school held its 1932 Home and School Night with strong attendance. From 7 to 8 p.m. visitors viewed exhibits in five grade rooms and high school workshops while the band’s public concert at 8 p.m. energized the crowd despite heat. The program featured several solos and ensembles, with the band directed by Dale Davig and a roster of students performing on cornets, clarinets, saxophones, trombones, and more.
Harriett Martena Childs, daughter of Charles Childs, wed Burke Wilson, son of Eph and Mrs Wilson of Moravia, in a 6 pm April 29 ceremony in Omaha Nebraska. Attendants Juanita Childs and Roscoe Locke attended. couple to live in Woodward Iowa. both graduates and teachers with recent jobs in state hospital at Woodward.
Two dinner guests were entertained at the Simmers home last Sunday Rev and Mrs Hawkins and Harris Stafford were their dinner guests with Donald and Dorothea Darby as water guests. Menu includes chicken pie beef and noodles mashed potatoes green beans onions macaroni and tomatoes cottage cheese pickles pie coffee.
Billy Derrickson two years old son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Derrickson of Unionville died in an Iowa City hospital Sunday from a kernel of corn lodged in his windpipe. He dislodged the kernel while playing with corn Saturday and was rushed to Iowa City for removal but lung collapse and infection led to death. The body was returned to Center Ville for funeral services Tuesday afternoon. The Derrickson family once lived near Moravia and moved to Unionville from Rockford, Al shortly after Billy was born.
Hiattville residents and relatives visit kin across Brompton Eddyville Centerville Moravia and Urbandale. Families include Hiatt Dicks Scott Bell Hinit Houser Utterback Weatherly Tucker Long and Martin. Local chores like K C Wilson plowing and Denny cemetery cleanup are noted alongside Des Moines visits.
Moravia residents are urged to set Monday May 9 as Clean Up Day with a man and wagon supplied to haul rubbish in suitable containers. Rubbish not containerized will not be hauled. County Ministers Meet In Moravia next Monday at 8:30 in the Methodist church with devotional, sessions on Sunday School and cultural evangelism led by local pastors. Evening sermon by Rev. G.H. Varce, Baptist quartet from Centerville to provide music. ladies to serve lunch at 6:30.
Mr and Mrs C J Crail former Albia residents take over the North Side Cafe in Moravia from GR Samuel. Possession given Monday morning this week. The Crails plan to run an eight first class eating house and bring previous restaurant experience to the venture.
A religious play titled Waltow Thou Me was staged at the Church of Christ in Moravia by the Milltown ehuyeh last Friday night. Set in Ponting Pilate’s home in Judex in 3 A.D. the cast wore costumes evoking ancient times, heightening the performance for a fair sized crowd.
A large group of Leaguers attended the G30 dinner in the church basement honoring Lv Todd district superintendent. The League evening service was well attended with Ly Todd speaking after the program led by Junior and Senior Leaguers. Genevieve Donovan will lead next Sunday evening.
Iowa High School Music Association officials declare Elizabeth Sneed of Moravia high school sole winner of first place in piano after ending a three way tie at the Des Moines district meet. East High Des Moines and Waukee entrants are not entered in the state contest. Sneed scored 267 with rivals at 256 and 255. State final piano contest set for Iowa City on May 5th.
Isaac Cochran of Lineal township seeks the county board of supervisors seat for 1938 on the Republican ticket. A farm operator in Lincoln township, he emphasizes road and mill work experience, Ministry duties, and self-reliance, pledging to serve all with diligent effort if elected.

North of Moravia on Route 60 Tuesday evening a bandit, armed with a red flash Weht, attempted to stop editor F. J. Raymond of the Blakesburg Excelsior as he was returning home after a Moravia visit. Raymond jumped the assailant, overpowered him, escaped unharmed, and the robber left with no money. The incident left Raymond slightly shaken the next morning.
Republicans of Taylor township met at the Moravia town hall on Saturday evening and nominated township officers and delegates to the county convention. Named were Justice of the Peace J. W. Halen, Constables John D. Veach Earl Brain, Trustees G. W. Jones 1944 term and Thea Miller 1934 term, Clerk I. L. Dodd, Assessor R. C. Wilaan, Committeeman H. K. Announcement by W R Blakeslee running for the Republican nomination for clerk of the district court. He has lived in the county thirty years, twenty six in Mystic and four in Centerville, with mercantile work in both towns. A staunch Republican, he has not before sought office and pledges economical, efficient service if elected, asking voter support at the June 6 primary.
Mrs. Mary E. Moye More of Unionville Iowa died Friday April 29 at her home aged 78. Survived by nine children including J.O. More Centerville W. E. The United Brethren Church holds a Mothers Day program with 9 45 a m Bible school led by Superintendent Murrel H Johnson including morning worship on the topic Mother and special songs with flowers for all mothers. Evening services at 7 30 feature Christian Endeavor study and a Mother and Daughter banquet planned for Friday May 13. The pastor Geo H Suenkel thanks Rev Donahue and Rev Bainbridge for services during his absence.
Iconium Circuit and Pairview mark Mother s Day with sermons at 9 to 10:30 a m and Sunday School sessions. Activities include Young People meetings, Epworth League discussions on finding our place in life, and community events such as egg roasts and banquets.
