Land Use Bill Discussed by Local Officials and Residents
State Senator Richard Ramsey and State Representative John Bru warned a Moravia high school meeting that a broad land use bill may pass limiting corporation farming. The joint gathering of the Moravia Adult Farmers class and Appanoose County Taxpayers Assn. eyed costs, a nine member County Land Use Policy Commission, and a 25 member State Land Use Agency with pay and an administrator. Critics argued it would create a powerful bureaucracy and threaten private land rights, potentially inflating land prices through corporate purchases. The bill has passed the house with amendments and heads to the senate with more expected, possibly returning to the house.
