Ray Ramblin announces upcoming community plays from Dramatics to senior class rehearsal dates with tentative April 25 presentation. The piece discusses metal use in new front plates, political nomination methods, and a glimpse of local Republican youth engagement and campaign planning.
North high boys earned letters after a season of nearly all close games with three overtimes including a sub state finals against Newton. They faced top regional teams Mason City and Roosevelt and finished third in the Big Six. Twelve girls received certificates as coach Burke Tassell praised experiences for each awardee. Baseball and basketball letters were awarded to players including Jim Woodward Lyle Morris Dean Kaster Donald Dicks George Woodward Wayne Wolf Lloyd Wolf Leonard Veak Jack Hopkins Richard McMullin Jack Kaster Edwin Clark Jerry Brown and managers L E Jordan Jack Hopkins.
Our office received several letters from Mrs Levota Hoisington of Spokane Washington with pictures and postcards praising the northwest territory. We shared the items with callers at the Union office and they approved their merits.
Mrs M B Dicks Pleasant reports visits by Mr and Mrs Russell Brown to Des Moines with Debby Dunham accompanying them. Family gatherings include Truxton Dicks Donald and Paul Dicks at George Scott home. Ernest Lowery of Arizona visits relatives including Frank Tarbell. Ruth Brandon mourned. funeral at Melrose. Dick Brown attended Lemaster birthday dinner in Centerville.
The Busy Bee Club met with Mrs. Beryle McCombs on Wednesday and set the next gathering with Mrs. Lucille Exline for Wednesday March 26. Many local residents including Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McFatridge, Pvt. John Hiner, and the Turner and Moffatt families were noted in visits, dinners, and weekend home stays across Centerville, Moravia, and Ottumwa as school elections at Lamar produced two director winners Roy Moffatt for eight years and Mike Turner for two.
Ottumwa social notes recount visits including Carl Boblenz home on Sunday and Jimmie Burns at Leon Burns home Thursday evening. Also listed are callers H T Boblenz, Frank Shoemaker, Milo Walker family, Ida Buck, Rev Eygn Stroud, and Sylvia Burns with Mary Burns. Charles Argo has mumps this week.
Milledgeville social column details visits and moves among residents. Mr. and Mrs Hurley Davis relocate to a Plano area farm with family. Several couples spend weekends with relatives including Christy, Fenton, Martin, and Taylor households. Aunt Ruth Brandon dies. funeral held at Melrose. Continuous schedule of visits and neighbors hosting gatherings follows through the week.
Real March weather brings sunny days and wind and rain. Farm Bureau meeting at Hilton Tuesday night drew good attendance with a fine program and pie and coffee. The Vance family extend sympathy for Glen Vance's funeral Thursday afternoon. Various family visits and gatherings noted, including VanDorin and Faber families, plus a letter from Sgt Jack Campbell in Korea mentioning a return soon.
Mrs Ernest Hiatt reports a busy weekend with Sunday dinners at Harold Hudgens and Kenneth Hiatt homes. Guests included Chester Sanders Gus Hiatt Lora Beagle and several Hiatt relatives. Birthday celebration for Eugene Daniels attended by Dooley Daniels and Roblenz families.

Mrs Mattie Jarrard spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Edward Sexton in Centerville. Mrs Rubye Brees and Neil visited New Hope school Monday morning. Mr and Mrs Don Pettibone and Lloyd Rose were home Saturday evening. Ernest West and family spent Sunday evening at the Ivan Harsh home. Ivan Harsh and family visited Bill Callen Sunday afternoon. Loyd Carter with Virginia and Bob were dinner guests at Jim Hetron’s home.
Mrs Edna Ward recovered at home from virus pneumonia after hospital stay. Numerous neighbor visits and dinners mark a weekend in Airview with extended family and friends including Carey Woodward Stocker Taylor and Proctor households. Guests from Bloomfield Newton Centerville and Unionville attended gatherings and church events as neighbors cared for the ill and celebrated a birthday.
