Iowa to raise daytime speed limit to 70 July first

The state will set daytime speed limits at 70 mph starting July first while maintaining 65 mph at night. Drivers are warned that increased traffic, longer trucks, and hazardous highway geometry on local routes require caution. Our sympathy remains with affected families.

Passing of publisher R B Eby’s wife noted

The family of Moulton publisher R B Eby mourns the death of his wife who died Sunday evening after hospital stays in Centerville and Ottumwa for a respiratory illness. She aided her husband and family and will be missed. Mr Eby had believed she was improving when last at the Union office Friday. Weekend Social Roundup at Nelson Ballangers Area

W S C S Wesley Chapel met with Mae McDonald last Thursday. Neighbors and relatives visited, hosted dinners, and dropped by for calls around the Nelson Ballanger home. In Ottumwa and Bloomfield hospital visits and moving helpers are noted along with family gatherings.

Goode Seed and Feed Co Open House Draws Crowd

Large crowd attended the Goode Seed and Feed Co Anniversary and Open House on Saturday. About 100 dozen donuts and multiple cases of soda were served, with many prizes awarded including a portable TV to Albert Romp of Rt. 5 Albia. A long list of other merchandise prize winners follows and they are asked to pick up their prizes at the store.

Sew and So Club Party at VanZante Home

The Sew and So club hosted a rock party Friday evening March 13 at Mr. and Mrs. John VanZante home with Mr. and Mrs. Wm French assisting. Four tables played with prizes won by Mrs Harold Mason and Frank Wilson. Mrs Ralph Spencer got the traveling prize. Mary Kay Spencer and Marjorie French assisted with refreshments.

Sunshine Club Meeting With Gerald Hawks Delayed by Snow

The Sunshine club met with Mr and Mrs Gerald Hawk for a cooperative supper on a Saturday evening but Neela’s club was a week late due to a heavy snow storm. Guests included Bert and Mrs McKern Lyndon and Mrs McDanes Harley Tisue Ray Harrison K V Glad felder Judy Kay Diane Dale Cox and the hosts. The next meeting will be with Darlene Gladfelder on April 1.
