A severe March blizzard disrupted communities in midweek. Roads deteriorated, schools canceled on Wednesday, and officials warned that bus service would not resume until conditions improved. Residents awaited clearer skies and safer travel as spring weather lingered.

They warn school aid hikes must raise money fairly and propose funding by sales, income, and property taxes.
Mr and Mrs Gilbert Callen were Monday Mar 8 dinner guests at the Gladys Townsend home in Centerville. Doris and Carol Christy visited Lorraine and Sheila Rinehart. Bruce Thompson played intramural basketball in Albia Wednesday evening. Mr and Mrs Paul Jordan were Thursday dinner guests at the Dick Brown home. Neil Sheldon visited his parental Clayton Sheldon home Thursday evening and returned to college Monday morning. Craig Sheldon attended basketball games in Des Moines Thursday.
The Urbana Doers gathered at the homes of Carolyn and Cathy Faber for a March 1 meeting. President Mary Van Dorin led eight members in roll call, minutes, and discussions of new and old business. The better grooming contest is set for April 5 at Cathy Sandifer’s home. The 4-H meeting concluded with the pledge led by Cindy Grinstead.
Clara and Theresa Brown shopped in Oskaloosa Friday. Orrin Callen and family dined with Gilbery Callen. Wayne Christy and girls attended a club soup supper in Iconium. Wayne Thompson family joined a Friday Albia high school show. Davenport visitors Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Clayton stayed with Gilbert Callen. Callen family hosted Saturday evening and Sunday dinner guests. Russell Brown and Earl Swift dined with Ned Argo in Ottumwa, Clayton Sheldon attended Laten Atwell’s 64th wedding anniversary open house in Promise City. Fred Christy family spent Sunday evening with Wayne Christy. Franklin 4-H met at Wayne Thompson home Monday.
The Taylorettes 4-H regular meeting was led by Mary Kay Spencer at 7:45 p.m. in Minnie Ann Condra's home. The pledge was recited. Sheila Wilson presented the secretary and treasury reports. Roll call answered by listed members and leaders. Sharon Wilson gave two talks, Beauty is always in Fashion and Plan and Work a Wardrobe. Refreshments were served by Minnie Ann Condra and her mother.
