Moisture report from Extension Office on soil depth and planting
Extension notes soil moisture in top 5 feet is about 3 inches due to wet and dry cycles since last fall. Alfalfa soybeans and corn draw moisture from different depths, winter rains add some moisture to the top two feet, but the mid layer is dry. with proper fertilization corn yields per moisture are higher, yet water storage in ponds and wells remains stressed and mitigation options are limited.
