Moravia and Moulton fought a tense opening round game in the sectional tournament that went to overtime after a 11 11 tie. Don Johnson of Moravia scored a field goal in overtime to secure a 13 11 win as Seymour led early then pulled away in the semifinal, Moravia’s hopes fading.
In Centerville over recent days, Carl G. Robay of Mystic replaces John Pyner as clerk in the district court office of M. G. Luse. Pyner resigns to join Pure Tee Co. Vivian Nicholson is named deputy recorder by Recorder John Smith, succeeding Agnes Smith who moved to Centerville National Bank.
Co hostesses Mrs G Johnson and Mrs E F Oehler arranged a one o clock luncheon at the Oehler home in honor of Mrs R E Cummins birthday. Covers for 12, roses on the table. Guests included Mrs J F Gray Mrs Francis Gray Mrs M P Main Mrs T J Zike Mrs Phillip Schreiner Mrs Mary Dille Mrs John Dilla Mrs Frank Hiatt and Mrs Fred Blumenstock.

The next Parent-Teacher meeting will be held Monday evening at 7 80 in the school building. The program includes Clarinet solo Romance Mozart performed by Ruby Johnson and others, Sleepers Wake Bach, The Kerry Dance, and Musical Reading. Participants include Virginia Zike Ruby Johnson Bernadine Bishop Dorothy Mae McCrory Codyne Luse Roberta Main and Mrs Pearl Hunter.
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. VanDorin of Foster hosted a party Tuesday in their home in honor of daughter Marjorie who observed her tenth birthday on March 6 and their son Pred VanDorin whose birthday is March 7. Over 50 relatives and friends attended, enjoyed games, and instrumental music while Marjorie received many gifts and refreshments were served.

Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Hiatt and daughters of Newton spent Sunday and Monday at Ed Main's home. Mrs. Main, who had been with the Hiatt family for six weeks, returned home with them. Mrs. Hiatt, a Mayo Clinic surgical patient at Rochester for four weeks, was brought home last week and is recovering satisfactorily.
A public caucus will meet at Moravia town hall Thursday at 7 30 PM to nominate a town ticket including mayor three councilmen treasurer and assessor. All residents interested in the town’s betterment are urged to attend.
Mrs T J Zike hosted the Twentieth Century club on Tuesday afternoon with a roll call on Americas folk songs and Negro spirituals. Mrs T B Cameron shared Folk Songs of Other Nations, Mrs Charles Coffin recounted Stephen Foster life, Mrs Stella Carter presented a folk song collection, and Mrs Cody Luse played piano. Mrs C M McFatridge reviewed the movie Swanee about Stephen Foster.
The W. F. M. 8 of the Methodist church will meet Wednesday March 13 with Mrs Frank Selby and Mrs C C Coulson as leaders. The meeting will address church duties and community outreach.
Abe Risely of Rockwell City ends 62 years of public service to return to farm life. He has held roles from township road supervisor to sheriff, postmaster, district court bailiff and mayor, totaling a lifelong career in Calhoun County.
Mrs Veach hosted the Progressive club at her home on Thursday afternoon. Members enjoyed a pleasant afternoon of games and refreshments. Mrs John Veach opened the event and Mrs William Young received the high score prize, with Mrs Chester Broshar winning the consolation prize. Mrs Hammond recovering after four weeks in hospital following surgery and is progressing satisfactorily.
Delores Hiatt is discharged from Lutheran hospital in Des Moines after a two week stay. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilbert Hiatt and returned to the home of relatives where Mrs Hiatt has spent most of the time accompanying her daughter.
William Seals dies from abdomen wound after a dispute over a horse escalated with Luther Wailes firing from 10 to 15 feet away near Iconium. Wailes, 72, is jailed in Centerville on second degree murder charges. A coroner's jury found Wailes feloniously shot Seals.
Faye Hudson marked her 10th birthday on Thursday February 29 in a surprise party at the Hilton church basement. Educator at Hilton school, she was guest of honor with patrons and friends. A picture and a cake with 16 candies were presented, and the evening included games and visiting. Refreshments were provided by committee members Mrs. Lewis Rouse and Mrs. John Spencer.
A. W. Bueler of Sae county claims the world's crown crow watcher title by netting a bounty of 354.60 on 546 crows captured in a special trap last week. His method could interest many communities seeking effective crow control.
The Mothers club will meet with Mrs Condra on Monday March 18 but the gathering has been postponed from the previously scheduled date. Walter Downing of Coin assisted a horse in distress. the horse kicked him in the ribs and offered no help in return.
M G Mage Luse announced this week he will seek re election to his present office Clerk of the district court. Luse a Center ville resident took office in January of last year after election in November 1938. He is a Republican.
The U B Aid dinner menu lists roast pork with brown gravy mashed potatoes creamed peas deviled eggs lettuce parsnips sauer kraut bread butter pie and coffee for Wednesday March 13.
