Old Methodist Hymnal Brought to Union Office

J B Kinion showed a rare book titled Methodial Hymns published in 1853. It measures 8 by 2 inches and is 144 inches thick, containing 1148 hymns and doxologies plus 79 Sunday School hymns and doxologies. The 768 page volume now belongs to Mrs. Kinion and was once owned by her grandfather Edward Callen.

Moravia district to elect two school directors next Monday

Voters in the Moravia Independent School District will name two directors for three year terms at the annual school election next Monday March 11. Polls open noon to 7 pm in the Community Building. Petitions list Lyle Beery Lester Brain H G Firkins and M H Johnson with names on the ballot.

The Japanese Tea planned on Wednesday by the Methodist W F M S has been postponed until a later date. Faculty members of the Morning public schools enjoyed a party at the Lester Brain home Monday evening, one of a monthly series hosted by Miss Jul oper.

March begins with freezing temperatures and a biting east wind. A few warm, dry days aided road drying, but the job remains unfinished as stormy conditions loom in the near future.

Moravia Girls Lose in Sectional After Opening Win

Moravia High School girls basketball finished 1984-86 with a sectional run at Centerville. They beat Hamilton 36 to 18 then fell to Cincinnati 6 to 11. Donna Foster led Moravia with 18 points while Wanda Easter had three field goals. Cincinnati went on to win the title 134 to 20.

Moravia Band to Play Outdoor Concert Saturday

Moravia Public School band led by instructor M L Betterly will perform outdoors at the Community Building platform in Moravia on Saturday afternoon weather permitting. The program starts at 2 o'clock and marks the band's first outdoor appearance of the year 1935, expected to draw the usual Saturday crowd.

County Poultry Club program delights Moravia crowd

A good sized audience attended the Appanoose County Poultry Club event at the Moravia Community Building last Friday night. Im Gardner led the meeting with program numbers and speakers. Clifford M. Hardie spoke on the club’s purposes and benefits for poultry raisers. Chas. E. Dominee discussed the 1985 poultry market outlook and price factors. C. E. Ward covered feeding for breeding eggs and 1985 price prospects. The evening closed with two reels of motion pictures Her Father's Flock.

Prisoner at the Bar to be staged at M E Church

A group of 21 local citizens aided by Anti Saloon League will present the murder trial Prisoner at the Bar at a union meeting in the Methodist church Monday evening March 11 at 8 oclock. The court room setup and a cast led by J W Zerbe as Judge Forsythe and J B Sneed as State's Attorney will dramatize the liquor conflict with Hoc Coppock as the prisoner and Marie Oehler as Mrs Hall among others.

Mrs McFatridge Dies After Long Illness in Moravia

Mrs C M McFatridge longtime Moravia resident died at her home March 2 1936 after lengthy illness. She born November 20 1873 in Nodaway County Missouri married Charles M McFatridge October 22 1891. Survived by husband daughter Edna Coulson one brother Charlea L Beatty of Los Angeles and half brother Noah Coe Udell IA. Funeral March 3 at 2:00 pm from home with Rev J C Behrens. burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Moravia High's Dorothy Wilson Wins State Preliminary Declama

Dorothy Wilson, substitute for ill Elouise Kanter, won first in the state preliminary declamatory contest at Albia on Feb 27, with her selection Goodbye Sister. Ruth Johnson placed second in oratorical, and Maxine Tisue represented Moravia in dramatic. Moravia competed with Albia and Eddyville high schools.

Nameless disease rumor hits Moravia after wild outbreak

Funeral held for Lucretia Wilder a 23 year old lab technician who died after exposure to an obscure disease her work involved inoculating a rabbit with germs. Doctors at the University of Minnesota hospital were unable to help. The nameless disease has hospitalized thousands in Moravia and nearby towns.
